dumb question re: TR3650 5 speed
no this is not related to the MT-82.
I have always been in the habit of double-clutching with all my manual tranny vehicles. I recently installed a Roush short throw on my '10 gt and when I double clutch from 5th to 4th, I get the weird feeling I'm going to go into reverse. I haven't of course, but to avoid that feeling, I just go straight from 5 to 4. I'm guessing I just have to get used to the shifter but its an eerie feeling nonetheleless
but my question is this: is there any way I could accidentally hit reverse going from 5th to neutral to 4th at highway speeds?

From neutral 4th is straight back, why do you feel like you're going to throw it into reverse? If you try to go into reverse it'll just grind but it would be pretty difficult to do unless you were really trying.

Rev/Blip the throttle to get the tranny up to speed to match the gear change

Shift in 2nd
Clutch out
It's not needed and a waste of time.
You aren't driving a tractor trailer/18 wheeler.

As for the 3650...I thought there was a reverse lockout, but I could be mistaken.
Shifting from 5th to 4th, just move the shifter down and let the spring center the shifter and pull straight back into 4th.
I've never even once balked at doing that thinking I'd try to engage R

I only ever double clutch on a down shift, it's good for the synchros, not 100% needed but it puts less stress on them over time IF YOU KNOW what you're doing, you're matching the input shaft with the gear you want to go into and the downshift is physically effortless. I'm not a big fan of the 3650 though :/ notchy, not good for power shifting and the synchros are weak.

I always double clutch on downshifts too. I like my synchro's. Don't like filings in my fluid.
Have no problems with the TR3650 (Bullitt shifter).
Reverse is not synchro'd so it would be hard to go from 5th into R. Like Boomer said, let the shifter do the work. Pull it out of 5th, let the springs bring the shifter into the center detent, drop into 4th... all in one motion.

just so we are clear, I only double clutch on the downshifts. no point on the upshifts like boomer said. so it would be 5th to neutral to 4th or 4th to neutral to 3rd, etc. When I'm just cruising this is my common practice and it always served my old T5 well. 112 thousand miles and that tranny was still going strong when I sold my '89 GT.
my concern was just going from 5th to neutral to 4th at speed, but I'm thinking I'm just being paranoid and should trust the shifter and tranny. It is just a very different experience from my old T5 and Hurst short throw set up.
