Angry Dual Zone Climate going crazy!!!

So i have been having this issue lately and it seems to be getting worse.

I'll be driving along and not even using dual zone climate but i do have the max a/c selected, all of the sudden i will start getting heat out of one half and cold out of the other half.

This doesn't have anything to do with overheating or running the car hard, this has happened when i was just putting around with my mom the other day. Also when it happened the other day i ran through the gear pretty hard and then it went away.

I haven't been able to find any rhyme or reason for this and can't find anyway to fix it other than turning off the a/c completely. Switching between dualzone and non dual zone, changing the fan speed, change the tempture helps nothing. the only way to fix is turn off the a/c completly and leave it off, if you turn it back on the issue is still there. Next time i start my car the a/c will run just fine for a little while but most times the issue will eventually happen.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this, I'm sure i will take it into the dealer here pretty soon.

Hmm...

I've heard of similar problems w/ Dual zone A/C in other (non-Ford) vehicles...

Jeep Grand Cherokee is the first that comes to mind.

Is there a min/max temp setting?

Not really a min/max setup you just set what temp you want it to be and that is what it sends out.

I have always had mine of 60 and have never really turned on dual zones unless its messing up.

I basically just run with the max a/c enabled with the fan on 2-3 temp @ 60.

With the Grand Cherokees, if one side had the sun beaming in, the system kept pumping cold air to keep it 60 degrees, if the other side was in the shade and dropped below the set temp the heater would kick on. (buddy of mine w/ an '04 WJ had to mess with the sensors to reduce the sensitivity)

Don't think that is the issue here, it has happened at night just as much if not more than during the day.

Maybe they should have kept the delivery hold on a little longer...

Ok, so your driver side is set to 60 degrees, right?

What temperature is the passenger side set to?

What hold? There was never any hold! There will never be a hold. A guy I know who's brother-in-law has a cousin working on the line at the F150 plant is related to the wife of one of the execs in charge of interiors for the Fiesta. I'm absolutely sure of it!

i believe the A/C compressor shuts off under hard acceleration to not rob HP..

i know my 88 camaro and my 95 mustang did that i wouldnt be suprised if the 2011 does it as well//

There is no passenger side setting unless you enable dual zones which i don't, but when i do i set it to 60.

Yeah but this happens when i am just crusing around.

I drove home from getting the windows tinted today and it didn't happen once but it happened on the way up there.

I'm probably going to take it in.

It's under warranty, take it in (I know it's a pain but still). Best guess here is the control module is going loco, or an issue with the temperature blend door actuator.

FYI - I'm pretty confident these are the same on the '10 as the 11. No MY changes to fear here.

On the plus side, at least it isn't the transmission.

does it only happen when set to MAX A/C? if so then its the compressor shutting off if, its shutting just cruising around, light acel.. it could be a faulty sensor/switch (tps/vacuum) forgot which kind they are using.

if its happening in normal a/c then there is something else going on.

either way take it in..

huh?

ac uses pressure switches, WOT cutoff, and it will shutoff if overheating.

regardless, it would have nothing to do with his issue, as its cold out the drivers side. if the compressor was shutting off it would be equally warm in the vents on both sides.

I have heard of this, before, with Ford dual climate systems and have experienced it, firsthand, in my 2000 Lincoln LS. For some reason, the passenger side would go full hot even though both were set at 68 degrees. I never had the opportunity to get it diagnosed and after a while, it stopped happening. The car was also a couple of years old when it started happening... in your case, it's a new car... and definately something that should be a warranty issue.

Very similar thing happened to my '10 last august. The A/C would pulse warm then cold. Didn't matter if it was day or night or what the A/C was set at. I brought it to the dealership and went and picked it up and it's been great since. I just looked at the receipt and it says repaired wiring. Bring it back to the dealership before it gets too hot out. Hope this helps

maybe it's a safety feature if both are blowing cold air one will kick in so as you don't completely freeze up ?

I believe this to be an electronics issue, if it was the compressor freezing up it wouldn't blow hot air.

What's even more wierd is since i got my windows tinted it hasn't done it, going to make it difficult to bring up to the dealer if i can't make it happen.
