This is why when my 2011 GT Premium vert arrives at the dealer, I am gladly trading my C6 Corvette vert n on it. I am totally SICK of Government Motors.

I for one am glad that GM took Federal funds. Ford would be in much worse shape if GM was forced into bankruptcy or out of business all together. The ripple into the economy would have been devastating as it would have affected not only GM and Chrysler but Ford and even foreign made automobies as well as parts suppliers would have been devastated. Also, competition is good for the breed. Since Alan Mulally had the foresight to see what was coming down the pike and with GM and Chrysler taking US funds, gave Ford a boost in the publics eye. This really rallied people who left Ford to buy Foreign made automobile to come back into the fold (I for one included) and is now giving Ford another look.

As far as the OP, 13.50's while granted is nothing to be happy about, it still showed that the Mustang is going to be showing its tail lights to the Camaro...just the way we like it.

I still don't like the bailout solution. In a capitalist economy, you can't have government safety-nets or it defeats the purpose. Either be competitive and smart, or get out of the way of those who will. The wrong people were saved when they should've been thrown out on their butts for the poor decisions they made.

Still, with that being said, I'm thrilled GM has been able to hang on (thanks to government money) and has made a car that actually shook Ford awake so that they can start upping their game.

And oh how they have upped it! I can only hope Chrysler gets their head out of it's butt and actually starts truly competing as well. And I can't wait to see how the Camaro answers back.

I had thought my Dad's generation was the final one to see this type of automobile rivalry in the US. I'm so happy I'm getting to witness Muscle Car Wars 2.0. There is nothing but win for all of us, regardless of what side you end up on, and I'm happy to see this particular war return.

Read the numbers this way everybody:
unprepared race surface = real world circumstances/not going to be the best numbers
1/8 mile numbers are being extrapolated into (very) rough 1/4 mile numbers = the actual 1/4 numbers will likely be faster
The 'Stang was already 3mph faster at the 1/8th and is lighter and (quite likely according to dynos) more powerful, so it will just continue to pull away
We don't know exactly where the shift points are for either car. Part of why the 1/4 is a better test since one of the cars may have had to shift near the finish, thus making it appear slightly slower (granted, very little)
AUTOMATIC transmissions + everyday inexperienced drivers = worst numbers you will ever get out of a 5.0

All just some thoughts off the top of my head.
The reviews later tonight will be fantastic, of that I am sure (and no I have no source other than my gut). We will likely see some impressive numbers. I can't wait.

Any idea if the reviews will be released tonight or if they'll be released tomorrow mid-day? Also, does the embargo end at midnight in Detroit or?

The estimated 1/4 mile times may be crappy, but did anyone read this? "In the theoretical quarter-mile—and given the traction limitations of the airport’s untreated surface (and no water and no burnouts allowed)"

It's believed to be 12:01AM EDT. The full reviews will be posted online within a minute of that time, based upon the last few embargoes on the 2011's.

Neato. Works out good for me!

EDIT: Someone said that only the impressions are getting posted tonight and numbers tomorrow? I really hope that's not true.

\/\/Hooray!

I thought the SS was a low 13 second car! I hope the GT does a lot better than 13.50 I've seen two stock 2002 Mustang GT Automatics turn 13.66 and 13.77 (they were factory freaks of course).

It is. The times are just crappy. People need to stop reading Internet text as gospel. You will find over 1 second of 1/4 mile differences in all the tests about to come out. Crappy drivers, crappy weather, crappy tracks, altitude, the works. Then you have variances in the GT such as gears, tires, and transmissions.

the only good thing that test was good for was showing the gt was consistantly faster

As said in the article though, burnouts were not allowed and the pavement that they raced upon was not prepped, not counting that they were apparently bad drivers.

I agree on the Camaro's times being way off, there has been 1/4 mile claims as low as 12.5-12.6 stock over on Camaro5(not to say they are factual). Although the Camaro has considerably better torque at peak and under the curve, I think the Mustang 5.0 will surely match the Camaro if not out pull it in the quarter mile.

The 1/8th mile comparison in the above article further cements the possible truth in my statement.

I for one think we should just wait before getting too stressed out about track times which to me look like a bunch of BS.

Hilarious watching it unfold, this Ford v Chevy crap is nuts. If the GT does 12.0, 12.5, or 13.0 it will still be a great car and the best GT yet. Quit going nuts guys.
