Does the navi work in europe?

All indications are negative, but maybe someone here knows of the opposite or a hack.

Cause if its not working over here, i guess the electronic package makes not much sense for me.

Thanks!

It would have to have european software downloaded on it, don't know if it's available. Someone at Ford should be able to answer the question.

I would hope that with the One Ford strategy, European and NA cars by now would share the same Nav software, or are there external network challenges in the way?

The GPS satellites orbit over Europe too. The MAP database may not support the roads over there. But that is just a matter of a database load.

I wonder if the fact that everything is 210W over there makes any difference?

Respectfully,

Roger

I know the NAV systems that were available in the '08/'09 cars was not compatible in the UK. Several Mustang dealers tried to resolve it unsuccessfully

That sucks

You would think all it would take is a "reflash" or a different map structure/pack and a GPS calibration.

Maybe that'll be different in the 11's?

Not different in the 2010... I got my hands on the Navteq maps, but I still have to figure out how to upload them... My NAV thinks I am in the middle of the ocean just off New Jersey...

I just read that the new Focus with SYNC (and with that navi, it is a part of the SYNC functionality as i understand it) will come to europe this year.

Just read about this SYNC sounds very user friendly. But is it worth the money against a 100 dolar navi? Which in 5 years can be replaced together with the hardware?

The limitation is not in the gps system. It is in the scope of the maps. They didn't provide you with maps for Europe. So the software thinks your off the world some where. I bet it could resolve your Lat and Log though. Just no map to place it on. Get a map in there and it will work. GPS navigation systems for aircraft work anywhere you have a map/database for it. Only one reason one for a car wouldn't. Because the ones who sell the system don't want it to.

I ordered the Nav system after sleepless nights of thinking should I get it or not.Since I will not be in Europe forever, I decided to get it. I think it is a shame you can't use it here. Many people come to Europe and bring their cars and are forced to use an aftermarket nav like Tom Tom which is what I have. Get with the program Ford, the world is a smaller place. We don't mind paying extra for the maps, just give us the option.

I was going back and forth on ordering nav or not also. In the end I decided against it. I won't be in Italy the entire time I own this car, however, by the time I get back the factory nav system will be out of date, plus the stand alone options out there are getting better all the time.

you got me...

On a different note: How do you install lasers in the V6 headlights? Any different than in the GT? And finally: How do I train the sharks with lasers attached to their heads to swim alongside the Mustang?
