Does anyone actually run with 87 Octane on their 5.0?

As the title says, I'm wondering if anyone here consistently runs 87 Octane on their 5.0. I would love to save on my gas bill in return for giving up on flywheel hp, but should I be concerned with engine knock or any other potential negative outcomes?

It won't harm your engine. And it won't save you that much money either (unless you drive A LOT)

EDIT: Nvrmind, you're in Canada. I don't know what the gas prices are like there....

I saw the manual says it's OK to run on 87, but premium is preferred. I am putting the middle option in my '11. Thought it was the premium, now see it's just Plus. I got 22.07 MPG on my last tank. I am fine with that #. In my '95, I was getting about 15-18. As long as I hear no pinging, I will continue w/89.

I have been running 87 for low-speed around town driving and filling up on 91 for road trips and/or when I know I'll get the chance to do more spirited driving. I get no pinging or knock with the 87, however.

My MPG (with a 3.73 rear end and 5-speed manual) averages a lousy 12 in the city but a decent 24-26 highway. I have never owned a vehicle before with such a large spread between city and hwy mileage. My '06 GT with an ATX got around 16 city.

I am going to try 91 in town also to see if it boosts my city MPG, although I tend to doubt it will.

BTW, there is a gas station near me that sells 100 octane (!) gas, however it runs $6.39/gallon last I checked.

With my CAI and tune, I was told I should be able to run 89 OK. But, I haven't tried it yet.

The engine will run just fine on 87. What I buy depends on circumstances. If I'm just going to be driving on the interstate, I'm not going to be putting my foot to the floor anyway so I'll use the cheap stuff. If I think I'll have the opportunity to do some "sporting" driving during the next tankful, I'll go for the high octane.

Right now the dollar is at par (ie $1USD=$1CAD) and in my area:

87 Octane=$1.07/L=$4.06/gal
89 Octane=$1.13/L=$4.29/gal
93 Octane=$1.20/L=$4.56/gal

If you don't have a cold air intake and a tune why run 93? I would think you run the 87 until you save up enough to get a new intake and tune! I run 87 in mine with no problems what so ever!

Only a few places near me have 91. So usually it's either 89 or 93. So for about 15 cents a gallon or $2.40 a tank I just use the 93.
