Do Not Buy A 2011 Mustang 5.0

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/edi...1-mustang-5-0/

We should wait to buy Mustang till direct injection comes.

Well, how about it?

If you constantly wait for the next year because something better's coming out, you'll end up with no car and a lot of angst.

If you want the car, buy the **** car.

Edit: And we knew the 5.0 was built for DI before it began production. These schmucks are about a year late with that info.

Edit 2: He quoted Moore's Law in a car article? This guy is beyond retarded. I want to smack him, and whoever gave him a writing job, in the face. Talk about sensationalizing.

I think it's just highlighting the fact that soon enough the 5.0 will have DI. Not really shocking at all... Look to the next gen. 14/15.

It's just putting the 5.0 and it's power base in perspective.
The title shocks us, and that's probably was the intent.

I'm pretty sure Ford said from the beginning that the 5.0 was designed with Direct injection in mind. Why wait to buy, the next model year will always have something better.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

The topic in general has been beaten to death... We should always wait until x new thing comes.

Problem with that - if this years units do not sell, they won't make next years. Ok not that drastic, but you get the point.

Also, why wait when you can be out having fun today? Ask any 10 owner why they didn't wait for the 5.0...

I'll pass. Seeing how many problems BMW and Audi are having with DI, I'm not sure I want the added headaches for a couple mpg.

Ford designed the 5.0 platform so that it could be a feasable power plant for the next 15 years or so, so setting it up to be able to accept direct injection in the future is a no brainer. As for the 2011, well if you want the car then buy it, don't wait just on the hopes on an eventual improvement that might not happen for another 5 years.

I am quite happy with my '10, glad I bought it and didn't wait, and it cost a lot less than a new 5.0 too . . . so now I'll wait and trade it in on a 14/15 when they have DI . . . .

Exactly....Be careful what you wish for. The carboned up intake tracts I've seen have been horrible...even on cars with relatively low mileage.

Article had a catchy title, I'll give it that.
But like everybody else said, no point waiting "till next year."

That goes with almost anything, not just cars.
There's always something better around the corner.... if you're going to wait, you'll just keep waiting....

Doesn't make sense at all to wait. With the type of aftermarket we have for these cars you will be able to keep up with whatever "performance enhancers" Ford throws our way.

I'm sure the great engine people at Ford will figure something out. They did develop a darn good new 5.0!

Why wait? Its not like the 5.0 is weak. Its such freaking fun. I could not care if the next Mustang had 600hp. I am happy with this one.

That article is a day late and a dollar short.

DI is the future, but why show your full hand right now?

It WILL make it's way onto that motor by 2020, but it's not as huge a deal as they're making it out to be. Not to mention you'll be adding a pair of CDFP's, different injectors, fuel rails, and seals associated with it. That's going to add cost to the motor.

Oh, and on top of the German issues with DI, go look at the DISI MZR motors that Mazda has and the issues with those.

I remember reading in a topic that Ford said it would add a few hundred to the cost of the car. They have a price point they're trying to achieve, and every dollar in price makes a difference. If 412 HP competes with the SS Camaro, they don't have to add it yet. It'll be a nice add in to meet stricter emissions and fuel economy standards, but I'd only wait for it if I knew it was coming in the next model year and I wasn't ready to buy a car yet.

Thanks. I think carbon build up and the fact that the 5.0 is a 400 hp engine are both reason enough to buy now. Well, not quite yet, since I'd like to have a little more leverage on a deal. Thanks again for all of your opinions. Except for the "meh" since I don't know what that was meant to convey. Is it a grunt?
