No problem, I really appreicate your input man. What wheels would you suggest? I think I'd need 18 to clear the brakes...

I would go for 225 as a compromise. 215-205 is bit too narrow for 412 HP ! I use some 225/60R17 Toyo G02-Plus which a great snow tire. The previous generation of the X-Ice, like most European winter tires, were more of a ice than snow winter tire; maybe the new generation of the X-Ice is better. Living in Quebec, I prefer more of a snow tire than ice. In BC, maybe you are better off with a good ice tire.

I'm not sure of the exact wheel size . . . like MontrealStang suggests, you might want to pick the tire size first, and then pick the wheel width to go with the tires.

I am going to have to figure this out soon for myself, for my 2010 GT, but I haven't worked through all the details yet . . . I will probably go with 17" wheels like your original post, since I think they will clear the smaller brakes on the 2010 . . . luckily I have a little more time since I live down in balmy Massachusetts!

LOL BC isn't that bad either. It snows like two or three times a year usually in Vancouver. But it's just how incompetent we are at clearing the snow. A small layer of slush turns into ice when it freezes and that's where the fun starts! Not to mention we've had the power go out on an inch of snow :P The only thing is these tires sell out quick... I guess I was hoping to get a head start by finding out what people here have - the closer their car to mine the better cuz then I can go spec for spec :P

Hey I just realized you run 17's winter rims for your 2011 GT? Standard brakes right? Did you have to do anything to get the 17" wheels to clear the brakes? What wheels are u using? Thx

So this has reopened an idea for me to get some 17" rims and mount some 225/60R17 Xice Xi2's on. I'm looking at some older OEM Mustang GT rims as they came in 17". How do I know what rims are TPMS capable?

Oh, i'm sorry - for some reason I thought #6 and #7 were the same post somehow and thought the poster had a 2010 mustang and not a 2011. So just to confirm, you bought a new front brake setup for $125 eh?

Or did you just let it clear by 1mm with your 5Zigens?

I'm using old 94-95 Mustang GT 17"x8" mags (bought them for $100 !). I had bought some 05-10 complete take-off brakes from Saleen (you can get them from NewTakeOff also) for my 05 Mustang. I've tested on my 2011 and fit perfectly. BTW, just the front brake pads are worth $125 !

Wow. Thanks for the advice! I'm new to all of this so I'm not sure if I want to fiddle with the brakes just yet so ideally if 17 rims can clear the stock brakes that would be great. So your 94-95 Mustang 17" rims fit your 2011 mustang stock brakes without the saleen kit? Just wanted to check

No. I have 12.4" rotors (05-10 GT) + 05-10 GT front caliper brakets; THOSE will clear the 17". Without them, it is too close to call for 17" mags .... my 5Zigen clears them but not the Ford 94-95 mags !

Here is a picture of my 5Zigen on a Brembo car (same clearance in diameter as the non-Brembo brakes BTW) ... it is tight !!!

FYI, the 2011 GT (without Brembos) have 13.2" rotors

The picture doesn't show but they don't touch; all you need is that they clear but it is really a case by case with 17" wheels !

Stock Ford factory 17x8 inch Bullitt mustang wheels will not clear the caliper on the 2011 Mustang GT base model. I have drag radials mounted on a set of 17s for the rear and just had to test them on the front as the wheel looked pretty nice - but from my initial test would not fit, not enough clearance. Mission control we have a NO GO - Abort, Abort or Grind !

Don't do it. I'm returning my 17 inch tire/wheel winter package because the wheel balancing weights don't clear the brakes.

That's what either inside stick-on weights - or lip weights (where allowed by law, I suppose) are for.
