Disappointing story from my co-worker about his 5.0 order

I figured I'd share this with the community, and share some feedback.

A friend at work ordered a Mustang back in May from Friendly Ford in Monroe, MI. It was a 6-speed GT Premium, 400A, Shaker 1000, and Comfort pkg. After several phone calls and back and forth with his salesman, he has yet to receive the vehicle and even receive a VIN for it. He got a "partial VIN" just last week, when the dealer told him his car was still two weeks out. He had been told there were numerous part delays (which I confirmed some were true), but never had any definitive dates from the dealer. I told him to go to the dealer I was ordering my car from, and the same dealer Shaun(Stinger) ordered his from. Still no luck.

I talked with him today and he told me that the dealer has been jerking him around and he had enough. He went out last night and is awaiting financing to buy a 2010 Challenger R/T. While I'm disappointed, it's really pathetic that some half-assed salesman caused someone to change their mind. While I would have anted up and got ahold of the sales manager and/or the GM of the dealer, he chose not to.

So, in short, I would advise staying away from Friendly Ford. They don't seem to care about their customers or doing the right thing.

He was sold on the Mustang after driving all three. I know him well enough to know he got dicked over and did the next best thing for him.

Don't worry, I plan on mopping the floor with him in mine and make him regret his decision.

Yeah, my dealership didn't call me on a weekly basis like some have, but they called me the day after the VIN showed up and gave me the order number when it was ordered. I was able to do my own tracking through Ford CS.

It is really sad to see that Ford is losing some sales to GM just because people can't do their jobs!

IMO, a dealer only needs to notify you of major things. Give you a VIN and a build date, and if any major delays factor in. His dealer kept him totally in the dark until he really started pushing. I directed him here to some of the sticky posts and then he took some action.

Bottom line, the dealer soured him and I don't really blame him. I just wish he would have went to another dealer and put an order in, so he could have got his original car.

Seems to me that he should have been able to find a dealer stock car somewhere that was close enough to his order that he could buy one off the lot.

Tried looking and didn't have anything local. Not sure if he tried at the dealer and saw if there was anything available remotely close to our area.

If a consumer gets screwed, it can leave a very bad taste in their mouth. This guy did the right thing and voted with his wallet. The only way any company out there reforms a portion or their entire company is if they see a negtive effect in their bottom line. If Ford figures out they're losing a significant percentage of sales to a congested and confusing order/delivery process, they will reform that process to stay in business. If they don't see a percentage drop, nothing changes and everyone continues to get butthurt.

This consumer should be APPAULDED, not mocked, for taking the bullet for everyone else so that we may see Ford reform its order/delivery process.

I was thinking the same thing. That a dealer would have a car close to what he wanted on the lot - no wait. I am sure he didn't get to pick his colors and options on the Challenger R/T. Not a bad choice, it suits some better than a Mustang (read as, old guys who don't like to turn).

But then again, Galpin Ford in SoCal has hundreds on 'stangs on the lot and not one with brick red interior, so not always easy to get exactly what you want unless you order it.

I'm going to put a call into my sales guy and see if he can find one anywhere with similar options and maybe convince him to stay away from the Dodge. We'll see what he has to say tomorrow.

Steve -- bummer for your buddy but it sounds like he's kind of passive. And passive people always get eaten alive by sales people. He'll probably pay sticker for that Chally. Hard to believe in MI they can't find GOOD sales people. I know there are tens of thousands of unemployed folks in MI who would love a chance to work. But I guess there's not much motivation if the sale is "later" . . .

And what's up with the "partial VIN" crap? I would have said, "Give me the WHOLE VIN or I'll only give you PARTIAL payment." WTH?

Definitely need to knock Friendly Ford off the list of dealers. I hear Avis Ford isn't so bad. Taylor Ford screwed me on a used truck a few years ago (bait and switch.) Not sure about other Detroit metro area dealers.

Good luck Steve!

You think he should be appaulded because he was too lazy to cancel his order with one lame ford dealership...and or try and order someplace else,or find one on a lot somewhere?

Just because one dealership gave him the run around, there is no reason to lump all of ford into "it's order/delivery process".

If he really really wanted a mustang,he would have tryed harder!

I know in some places, dealerships are few and far between, but you can usually get a sense of how things are going to go when you first walk in. Like in Bakersfield, CA, I walk in and all around the Mustangs and kick the tires for 20 minutes and not one of the vultures approaches me. I am a 37 year old white guy who drove onto the lot in a Honda, I would see me as a pretty safe bet. So if the sales force can't be bothered to even come up and say hi, then I am onto another dealership. Galpin swarms you and throws keys at you. It is no wonder they sell so many cars.

In your friend's case, he should have at least gone to another dealer to see if his experience was better, or if they seemed more eager to help him.

At least Galpin gave you a response. I have had no luck on pricing from them so far. They said come down and we will talk LOL.

I had problems with Galpin, I had to drive up there 3 times, (hour and half drive from my house) and they told me numbers... we had picked out the mustang i wanted, test drove, ran credit checks everything on the first 2 days...then on the 3rd day i drove there, i was getting rdy to sign papers after being there for 2 hours, because my salesmen was helping me and a couple buying a used car at the same time... They changed all the numbers on my last minute and tried to **** me over... i walked out on them that day.

I was going to be a returning customer (Trading in my 2007 F-150 FX2 I have bought brand new from them in 2007), but after that crap, of getting told lies, false numbers, even from a manager and the salesmen. I will never purchase a vehicle from them before.

My granddad is a Ford Dealer on the east coast, I told him about this problem, and he said he was not surprised, and that they were all a bunch of liars. And that there are thousands of people who have issues with galpin and the way they treat their customers. Even the owner of Galpin is a liar i was told.

so watch out for galpin

Yup they are BIG TIME liars. Had a similar issue with them myself when looking for a new GT back in 08. Went to Vista ford in woodland hills and they are just wonderful! Purchased my new 08 there and then traded in my 08 for my 11.
