That is why you see daddy's little girls driving those v6's.

You want a REAL MUSCLE car? GET A V8. ITS WORTH IT.
Say that to the 96-98 GTs you will be destroying with the V6 PP. Not to mention it stops quicker and pulls more G's than a '11 GT Brembo

I have to say that I sorta agree with David here... However, I would hold off on getting a Mustang period. By no means am I being mean. I was in the same shoes you are in. Except for me, I was just out of college and working in my first professional job. I choose to get a house over a Mustang. But, everyone's situation is different. I will place my order in Feb. for a GT Premium.

If you do grab a pony, here are my thoughts (once again, these are only my opinions and I am not trying to be rude to anyone out there): 1. A V6 or Automatic Mustang is not a Mustang. 2. Have you seen the base GT? It's horrible... It really is. I was thinking about getting a base, but the interior really is rough. 3. When I get mine, I am going to have it for a LONG time. Factor that into your decision.

Best of luck to you and your decision!

Thanks for the input, guys.

I will go to Galpins tomorrow (or actually, today) and see about a quote for the 5.0 they have. From their website, it seems they don't have a completely base GT in Performance White. Maybe they can swap with another dealer.

If when I see the price and I am comfortable with it, then I might make a decision. Otherwise, I'll be perfectly fine with ordering a V6.

I bought my car at Galpin.. and if you want someone that is a mustang enthusiast, and a nice guy ask for David Rogers... tell him Nick referred you. Really great guy, and encouraged fun test drives

I'm kinda surprised 50H and I are the only two with this opinion -- I'd also suggest you keep the Accord for a while, graduate, get that real job, see where you will be living, see how much you are really making, make sure that you can comfortably afford the car, maybe even wait a while to save up a bigger down payment . . . then get the new car that you really want, or even consider a used one since they should be available by then.

Mustangs are great fun and I'm glad I bought one; but we are living in uncertain economic times and there are bigger priorities.

I'm afraid I have to take exception to your #1 comment. I can agree somewhat with the 6-cylinder sentiment when applied to older models but any 300+ horsepower engine is more than enough to make it a Mustang. And as much as I prefer a manual transmission, drag racers would be very quick to disagree with your opinion on automatics. Perhaps saying "I would never own a V6 or an automatic" might be a better way to comment than saying they are "not a Mustang".

Go with the GT

If I were you, I'd pass on the V6. If you think now you might regret not getting the GT, I can almost guarantee that you WILL regret not getting the GT when you purchase the V6.

At the same time, I would also pass on the Brembo package. I'm currently driving on the Brembo package springs...and they suck. They are very stiff, and even with a set of Koni shocks/struts, I cannot get the adjustments to where the car feels right. The car is very jittery if the settings are at full soft, but if I start firming up the suspension to counteract this, then the car ends up being too stiff. It is almost impossible to find a proper balance. In short, you get all the detriments of lowering springs without any of the benefits (e.g. a lowered ride). Of course, this is great for the track, but not if you're driving long distances on the LA freeways every day. I've test driven used Bullitts and a brand new non-Brembo 2011 and I have not noticed the same problems. There is another post where someone test-drove a Brembo 2011 and experienced this as well.

If it were me, I would get a 2011 GT, 401A package, 3:73's, comfort group, and electronics package. These are all the things which would be almost impossible, or cost-prohhibitive to retrofit later. I suppose I could also include the HID headlamps in this too, but these never really appealed to me. Good Luck!!

Off-topic: Try a 1/2 turn up from full soft both Front & Rear for street-driving w/ the Konis. That's how I have mine set on my '06 w/ FRPP springs.

If I were you the first thing I'd do is this:

Call up (or check online) your insurance company and get these 3 quotes:

2011 Mustang V6
2011 Mustang GT
2010 Mustang GT

if the 2010 Mustang GT is not much more than the 2011 Mustang V6, but less than the 2011 GT, get the best of ALL worlds for yourself and get a left over 2010 Mustang GT

You'd have the wonderful V8 sound.
You'd have a car that's a bit faster than the 2011 V6 is stock.
You don't have to worry about feeling like you got a "girl" V6 Mustang (if that's how you feel).

Gas mileage won't be as good as the 2011 V6, but what's a few extra bucks a week for the V8 sound and feel.

Lastly, you can get one RIGHT NOW and get it for the price (maybe even LESS) than what you'd pay for the 2011 Mustang V6!!

If the 2010 GT insurance is too high. Get the 2011 V6 PP
Slap a Borla exhaust on it and you'll have a pretty sweet sounding V6 that performs very well, get's good gas mileage if you drive it moderately, have cheaper insurance, and not break your bank.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try that setting. I've been trying to isolate other potential problems with the suspension (in case it's not the springs). Last week I took the car to the dealer and they noticed that the bushings on my front lower control arms were shot. So, I upgraded to the FRPP lower control arms (since the bushings don't come separately), and the car feels a lot different. I have not had a chance to experiment with the Koni settings since I made the control arm upgrade so I might try the 1/2 turn setting on front and rear to see if that makes a difference. To be honest, I've tried that setting before, but not with the new front control arms.

The other thing I found while researching online is that all the 2011's have this part called a "Z Brace" which supposedly stiffens the chassis and, according to the magazine article, "allows for stiffer springs without reducing the ride quality. Problem is, I don't know whether that is necessarily true, or whether this brace can be retrofitted to a 2008. The solution may simply be to swap out the Brembo springs for a set of stock 2010's. They are not very expensive.

Not sure my opinion will be valid. Take it for what it's worth. I would go for the V6 because it makes a bit more since in your situation. Yes it has less power than the GT but look at the GT's power level a year ago. Not far off. Compared to a 2009 GT the 2011 V6 is more powerful. I have only owned cobras since 2000 (1996, 2001, 2003). I still have the 2003 Cobra and it is modded with a Kenne bell blower and makes 607 HP to the rear wheels. I am no more or less of a man because of which car I drive to work. Before I got the V6 I got to drive a 2010 GT. After I bought the V6 I got to drive the 2011 GT. I am so glad I got the 2011 V6. For daily driving it is plenty - no regrets. This car will not win every stop light grand prix battle nor run 11s out of the box - neither will some exotics.

I am a bit more mature now so I don't need to rumble and announce the sound of a V8 every where I go. The GTs are considerably faster but I would not trade my V6 for one. The real men drive V8s statement is pure BS and peer pressure. I drive a V8 Cobra and I am still the same if I switch to a SMART car. I would never advise or say to forum members that real men drives cobras or anything else is not a true mustang. That would be very stupid and totally untrue. It's in you if you are a true mustang person/enthusiast not whats under the hood.

Remember winter is coming and the V6 may be the better car for extreme conditions. The cost of fuel can go up at anytime. $5 per gallon will be less damaging to the V6 owners a and watch the SUVs and V8 gas guzzlers value drop (even perception of being a gas guzzler).

All things considered either car is fine but use your best judgement not what would be cool. None of the people in this forum will make a car payment for you or fill your tank. Consider the Premium model over a base model if your budget can support it.
