did anyone buy the american muscle 20" rim combo? (or do you run 285/30/20??)

I am considering the amr 20 inch rim combo but they are packaged with 285/35/20 and 255/35/20 which are both shorter than stock and very thin sidewalls. I want to run 295/35/20 and a matching height front but that almost doubles the cost of the tires.

I am worried about the ride on 20's with a sidewall that short and also worried about rim protection. Any input? I was planning on lowering 1-1 5 incbes as well and am curious if anyone with that tire size is lowered

Thanks
mike

255/35R20 = 255/40R19 of the brembo brake package wheels.

I ran 255/35R20 and 295/30R20 and in less than a year had/have three bent rims out of four and have since put the stock wheels back on. If I were to get 20's again it would have to be with a 255/40 and a 295/35 if i ever did it again.

You'd get the same rear size?

Thanks for the input - that is exactly what I am afraid of. This is a harsh winter and the roads are pretty torn up here in N. IL so im sure by spring they will be even worse with this constant deep freezing and thawing every week.

For comparison purposes:
My stock prielli's are 235/50/18 - 27.25 height- 4.63 sidewall
285/30/20 - 26.73 height - 3.37 sidewall
295/35/20 - 28.13 height - 4.06 sidewall

There are no affordable tires in 295/35/20 (or matching fronts) so the cost to jump to that size adds about $350-400 to the total tire price. Nitto Invo's are the cheapest decent tire in that size that I have found.

I re-read this and was thinking you said you bent 3 rims on a 285/30 and then read you bent three on 295/35 and 255/35-- were you bending only fronts? (hence keeping the same size rears if you did it again?)

no I misstyped.

I bent three American Racing Torq Thrust M's on 255/35 and 295/30's.

Go taller, it's the best option.

Nitto Invos fit well. I know that's the tire I'm going to go with.

I was previously running 245/35/20 front and 275/35/20 rear the ride quality was quite harsh but thankfully I didn't bend any rims. I just switched to 255/40/20 and 295/35/20 today and I notice immediate the ride was MUCH smoother, like night and day difference. Not sure what helps the ride quality more though, the taller sidewall or the better tires?(previous tires are cheap 2nd hand tires)
But you're right, the price of these new tire size costs me an arm and a leg.

I do run 285/35/20's on my Forgestars, but they're on the front. I have the 315/30/20 on the rear. I haven't had any issues with my rims in any way, front or back. No scrapes, no dings, no dents. It's a GT500 and I run plenty fast, the wheels and tires are just fine. You don't need high sidewalls just because you're running 20's.

I suppose it depends on your opinion of what constitutes a high sidewall.

A 28" tire when the car uses stuff that's around 27" to 27.4" is a tall sidewall. That little bit makes a difference. That being said I'm now running a 255/45R19 on my Brembo wheels because I don't want any more bent wheels and DC's roads are pothole city.
