Deer vs Kona 302

i'm quite the lurker , hi i'm T'erre and i have a 2011 5.0 . owned the car for about 6 months so far , previously owned a BMW M3 .

about two weeks ago , around 9:30 i was traveling down Capitol of Texas highway 360 headed towards downtown to attend a friends Halloween house party . every thing was going smooth , until ... a deer decided to take a nice stroll on to the road on a blind corner.

For the past few years i've lived in this area and drove on 360 i have never seen a deer on that road . . . EVER. after i blew off some steam on the side of the road for about 30 mins i went to look for the animal and it was no where to be found , i'm amazed a deer can be hit at 60 to 65 mph by a 3600 lb car and still manage to run away from the scene . . .

I was driving home last week and between South 1st and Congress on HWY 71 I had to dodge a dead deer lying in the middle of the road. Never have I seen a deer dead or alive that far inside Austin city limits.
Hope your Body Shop does a good job.

Ouch! I'm glad your ok! Insurance can replace your car.

Deer are running here like crazy! Makes me really nervous driving at night.

Sad to see this. We have a lot of deer where i live and a lot of deer hits. For some reason the area i live in, city officals are trying to get Elk to live and reproduce. One got hit and killed last year. I guess the deer aren't big enough

Sorry to see this. The kona population is small as it is. Get back on quick.

I just hit a deer two days ago here too, although not into mustang thankfully. Was in my wife's smart car and was able to slow to about 15mph before hittin the deer. Shockingly no damage except a small crack in the headlight. Guess those plastic body panels are actually a good idea!

Good luck getting the car fixed.

Glad to hear you're okay! Deer can be deadly even when driving a car!
But... maybe that 9k can go into upgrading?
I know a shop back in Arlington that I've used that worked with me a little.
Insurance writes them a check and they spend it on replacement parts, which ones are up to you... new hood, bumper or splitter... clear bra maybe...

I can't quite see the pic well on my phone, but I don't see any damage. Was that after it was fixed?

Yep. That's what I have done each time when my wife gets into her yearly (yes I said yearly) accidents. Thankfully it's in her minivan and now Prius.

Not meaning to thread jack either but I will share my experience as well.
I hit a deer doing almost the same speed 60mph, but I caught him at more of a glancing angle most of the impact was on the passenger "front corner" by the foglight.
Weirdest part, is I barely even felt a slight bump, and I probably wouldnt know i hit anything of that size if not for the steam that started coming up.

It took out the grill, pass headlamp, front bumper, hood, radiator support, fender and the hood was pushed back into the window cracked that too. That doesnt cover every little piece of what was replaced. I have a long print out for that. But long story short 8500 in damage, so I must agree 5k does seem cheap.

*** On a side note to make matters worse shortly after getting it repaired.... which I was happy it looked great. I took for an oil change, and the tech who did the job, proceded to then curb my passenger front wheel. So I hit up craigslist sold the wheels and tires I had for 700.00 and bought some take off Brembo wheels and tires for 800!! ****

If a tech ever did that I would probably lose it. I'd be sure to fly off the handle lol. I hope they paid you for everything

They paid to have a wheel guy come out and "fix" the rim. Well I couldnt deal with that had to sell them.
