Angry Darn shopping carts!!!!!

I can't belive this happened to me! I'm currently on vacation and yesterday was an extremely windy day. Went to the supermarket for just a couple of items and parked the car (as I usually do) away from all the crazy people. When I came out a few minutes later, I could not believe that the wind had actually blown a shopping cart straight on into the front of my car. The basket part ran into the tip of the hood, the bottom of the basket got wedged on top of the bumper, and the lower part of the cart went onto the lower fascia. I just can't get over that people can't take care of their own carts and just let them go!

I guess my baby will have to visit the body shop when I get back. I'm left with a 2" wide and pretty deep scratched/chipped area on the hood, some definite indentation marks on top of the front bumper, and some scratches on the lower fascia. I haven't looked close at the Boss splitter yet.

Pretty sure I need a new front bumper... hopefully they can fix the hood! If the rain lets off, I'll be able to shoot some quick pics...

It just hurts... really hurts!!!

only bright side is it wasn't caused directly by a person...i hope the viper 2 way alarm can alert me of parking lot wrongdoing...do you guys have a low comprehensive deductible (<250) so you can fix these things without hesitation

Yeah, there are a lot of people who just don't care. Even a lot of people who are driving a new car themselves don't care if someone else's car gets scratched up because they were too blasted lazy to put the cart away. It's surprising that you never hear of anyone getting assaulted for doing this.

Thanks guys! I hope they can restore everything to new... I took another look between showers today. The tip of the hood definitely got the hit. Scratched up pretty good, just at the downward edge towards the grille. I'm pretty sure they need to replace the bumper, as the basket of the shopping cart left some nice grooves in it. However, I'm surprised that there is no paint damage! But there are a total of three grooves. The lower fascia (which I installed not too long ago) got some scratch marks, and probably has to be replaced as well. Seems like the splitter got a hit as well... not sure if it's enough to be replaced or not.

I'll get an estimate next week when I'm back home and we'll see how bad it is. If it's not too much, I don't even bother with insurance, as I have a $500 deductable anyways... but who knows. That's what's insurance is there for, right?

Just really annoying! Especially as I am a person who even brings a shopping cart back into the store, rather of having it sitting around. Here in NC it seems like the parking lots are lacking of cart return stations. And most of the parking lots have an incline to it... so once a cart is on the move, it will most likely only be stopped by either the curb or... a Mustang! Especially when the wind is blowing like crazy, the carts start moving by itself. Stupid!!!

Yeah, I either put the cart in the designated areas or I just walk back and put it in front of the store.

I think for most people it's a combination of laziness and not caring.

Sorry to hear, OP. I usually make sure there aren't any stray carts around the spot. I'll move the cart if I see one just hanging there by itself near the spot I parked in

+1 to all of this. I'm the same way- like 20 seconds to properly put a cart away isn't that earth altering ... And i'll go out of my way to put other carts away on behalf of mankind.

But sorry to hear man, really hope it's a quick and effective fix for you! And you're back to pristine condition.

That sucks. If I have to go to the store I'll drive my wife's Edge. It's better designed for shopping cart wars.

Sucks about your car. Hope it gets fixed soon. Im one of those people that doesn't always walk my cart but I either wedge it over the parking stop or leave it on a grass area so it doesnt roll around.

I'm constantly amazed at the inconsiderate, lazy bastards that won't push the buggy 10 feet to the rack. I've seen people parked one car away from the rack just walk away. I've also noticed that the problem is much bigger at WalMart than at Target, for whatever that's worth. I make a point to park right next to a return rack... because at least one side of the car is safe from other doors and runaway buggies.

Not a good idea. I see so many people push the car into the rack from 10-15ft. away. One slip and it's in your bumper.

That sucks that happened to your car. I am paranoid whenever I drive my car to a shopping center parking lot. I can park way out with no cars around me and come out to find a shopping cart or two near my car. It is very aggravating.

When I drive the "good" cars, I have started to try to park "uphill" from where the general public is doing all of the shenanigans with carts. Most lots have definite uphill areas which slope downward towards their drainage systems.

Sorry that happened. I also always put my cart up either in the cart corral or back in the store. It makes me mad sometimes just how lazy people are.

Plenty of others have said it, but I will repeat it:

It's amazing how lazy people are in a parking lot. Even to the extent of not lining up on the correct side of the exit, but taking up the entire middle of the **** thing.

I have been spotted on numerous occasions sweeping up the lot of four or even 5 carts and putting them up rather than have them get blown about or such. Not only for my car's sake, but for them all.

Oh, and I park up front, because I parked way back a few times... and that's when I get dinged. If I park up front, that doesn't happen... and I make sure to park so that fatness next to me has enough room on both sides of the car, and that their doors won't hit my mirrors or my mirrors don't interfere with their entry/exit.

So far, I've yet to get a ding. Guess I'm doin' something right.

I used to work at that Publix a long time ago. Yes that parking lot is bad with rogue shopping carts.
