Even after a few months of ownership I am realizing how different this Mustang is compared to my 4.6L GT. Around town and just cruising it feels like my old car (except no shifting) and also my Challenger and Trans Am. Nothing really that different. Now the different part. I was on some open roads and really punched it into the higher RPM range, 4000 - 5000+, and it literally pins you back in your seat. You approach triple digits in no time at all. This is crazy how they built this engine. All the power is in the top range. A grocery getter if that is what you want, but a racing machine as well. The only other car I have driven that had a similar sensation was my LS3 Corvette with it's 430 HP. I guess that's pretty close. I'm really liking this '14 even with the A6 tranny. A car for all conditions.
This is the classic response of overhead cam engines - more so with 4 valves..
Pushrod engines tend to be torquey at lower rpm, with a shorter power curve as revs rise. The Coyote is just waking up at 3500 rpm. The fun is stored higher up on the shelf, but so fun to reach for!
