coolant system bleeding help

Today while i was doing coolant change, i only manage to get about 1gallon and a 1quart out of the radiator through peacock. I had the car idle for 45minute while squeezing the upper and lower radiator hose and even rev alittle. The radiator fan came on at least 5 times in the process but I could only put back 1 gallon of new coolant. Am i missing something?

oh almost forgot to mention for some reason having heater on max, air vent air sometime is hot sometimes is not.

sounds like there is probably air trapped in the system; I know there are different ways to get it out; I think one simple way is to park the car on a steep hill with the nose pointed up and run it that way for a while, but be careful to make sure it does not get too hot (due to the air still trapped in the system)

I am not positive on this so hope someone else will chime in

i havent drove it yet, maybe driving it around will circulate the coolant and burp the system. The reservoir seems self burp, i wonder if it will burp with cap on driving around.

Vacuum bleeding is recommended. See the link below:

I was planning to get one, wanted to try it out manually first. i havent drove it yet, maybe driving it around will burp the system. I see alot of youtube regarding bleeding coolant system and i have done all the above but still some air. The only thing i havent done is drive it, maybe it then will circulate the coolant and burp the system.

Flip to the last page of the section in the manual. It gives instructions for manually bleeding as well.

This morning when i went to check my coolant level it was the same but what was surprising was as i open the cap it release a great amount of air suction. The level from max dropped down to min. I also took it out for a spin and will be checking the levels again tonight or tomorrow once its cooled down. The air vent was hot the whole time during drive too. I think i did it but probably need to change my coolant couple times every 6month or so to get the last 2 gallons of old coolant out.

You'll never be able to completely drain the coolant system (short of hanging the car vertically from the rear with a crane). That's why the factory fill is good for 100K, but every drain/refill after that has to be done every 50K. The coolant is never completely replaced. I didn't get much more drained out myself. Next time I'm going to drain with the rear on ramps and a very shallow drain pan to try to get more out. If you have an air compressor, the vacuum filler (Airlift UVU550000) mentioned in the shop manual is great for the refill. It's fast, and you can overfill it if you don't watch it closely.
