Compass question.

Does a 2014 base GT have a compass in it? It talks about the compass in the owner's manual but my car doesn't seem to have one. On another forum a guy showed a picture of his base model 2013 GT with the compass display in the radio so I was curious if the base model 2014 GT was supposed to have one also. Thanks.

My 2012 has it on radio display as well.. I don't see why they wouldn't have it... unless have navigation then your whole unit is a compass :P

I don't have navigation. Mine is a base model car with the basic radio. I do have the temperature display on the right side of the radio display but no compass on the left side as I've seen in some pictures. I also don't have the two lines that people talk about when their compass is not working.

I'm hoping that some of the people with base model 2014 GT's will chime in to say yes or no on the compass. Thanks for the replies.

The compass only comes on the base model if you opted for Sync.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I went to where the car is stored and messed around with the 7 & 9 buttons on the radio like the owner's manual mentioned and nothing happened so I guess like some of you have said, I don't have the compass. I guess they can give us the outside temp but no compass.

I noticed that too on my car. It's a 300A, and there is no compass on the right side of the radio display.

The compass should be on the left side of the radio display at the same level as the outside temp reading on the right.

I looked at my radio display while it was off and shined a flashlight on the display and I could see where the compass readings should be if they were lit up.

Does Sync use the compass in some manner and is why it's only supplied on base cars with Sync? I've never seen any information on Sync that mentions it including the compass.

I don't understand why Ford would include the outside temp on the base car and not the compass.

kind of weird that it doesnt come on base. all of my vehicles have had one, ive never really used it but they all have had one. maybe ford just realized most people dont even need a compass anymore with everyone having gps's.

I have NAV with built-in compass and most of the time it's 90-180 degrees out. I can't find a way to adjust it.

And you won't. The sensor is located in the lower grill (lower front facia). It may be faulty. They never are that acurate, but yours is way off!

I only use the compass when I'm driving in the woods. But then I have to worry about hikers and poison ivy.

Here is the technical description for MY2013:

Electronic Compass (Without Navigation)
The compass display (located in the Front Display Interface Module (FDIM)) receives battery voltage from the SJB . The compass module (integral to the auto-dimming interior mirror) provides hardwired vehicle directional inputs to the IPC , which sends the compass information to the FDIM over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN). The compass is capable of self-calibrating. This decreases the need to manually set the compass. If the compass is displaying a heading (and not displaying the C or CAL indicator), the compass is in auto-calibration mode. In this mode, the compass automatically calibrates for changes in vehicle magnetics over the life of the vehicle. This auto-calibration mode makes sure the compass heading is always accurate. If the compass displays the C or CAL indicator for an extended period of time (longer than 5 seconds), this indicates the compass has been placed in the manual calibration mode and therefore, requires manual calibration.

So that means that you only should have the compass if you have an auto dimming mirror?
