Just thinking out loud here. I don't remember anyone mentioning this before. I need to find that link to Ford's suggestion box. IMO, this would make the $2300-ish price of the EP more worth it for those that are on the fence. You're already getting the DZCC, so including the (electric*) seat heaters and power passenger seat shouldn't be extra.

This would be pushing it, as far as Ford's cost is concerned, but I'd almost go to say the Security Pkg should be included in the EP as well. Or maybe charge $2600 for the EP, but include the Security and Comfort with it.

Thoughts? Would this make the EP more palatable for those that don't think it is worth it?

 

I think a better thing to do is move the DZCC to the comfort package. Then drop the EP $400 and increase comfort $200. I think more people would pony up for the comfort package that way. I think the problem is that a lot of people would then skip the EP and that just might kill a big profit center.

 

I could live without the power passenger seat, but i had to have the automatic dimming rear view mirror. I've wanted one for many years, now i have one.

 

If they drop DZCC from EP, then that forces them to design a new button layout for the EP. By adding Comfort to EP (but still keeping it an option for non-EP), they eliminate the need for an extra set of non-functional buttons...

 

I was looking on Ford's website for the 2011 specs and the auto dimming mirror is now included in the premium package, not the comfort anymore. I was concerned about this as the dimming mirror is the top tier for purchasing the comfort package for me but sure enough it now comes standard with the Premium Mustangs.

The current comfort package only includes seat heat and power passenger. Which is still a good idea anyway.

I agree about the EP being more than just the current EP. I could easily see the seat heat with the EP.

 

I have all the options so i can't remember what came with what LOL!!! I would pay $500 for the automatic dimming rear view mirror if it was a 'stand alone' option. That's how much i wanted one.

 

I'm with you. Ever since my Mom had it in her GMC back in 2000 I have wanted one in my car.

 

CD's got the same idea as I do. Add in the DEATC to the comfort package, adjust the price accordingly. Make the Comfort Pkg a precursor to the Elec. Pkg, and you get the same outcome as the current vehicle in terms of options.

On the other hand, since the HVAC controls are totally different between the EP and non-EP cars, the center stack would have to be designed again to accommodate the standard radio and the DEATC. Right now you have radio/HVAC and nav screen/DEATC. You'd have to created radio/DEATC and that would cost $$$.

 

If Ford is true to their motto about Mustangs, I think this is certainly the reason why. To keep cost down as much as possible. I am just happy they give us as many options as they do.

 

Maybe they'll make that change when they come out with the next generation. Hopefully it will follow the 2011 Edge's lead and have MyFordTouch available whether or not you get navigation. Then there's just one console design.

 

I'm anxious to see how they integrate the MFT into the Mustang on the next redesign. I think we'll have some really cool features that will take this car to the next level.

I keep going back and forth about this whole Elec. Pkg. option for the car. I can justify EVERYTHING else, except that. Not to mention the extra $35-40 per month for that, it adds up quick.

 

MFT? Edit: I missed, it, My Ford Touch, I am interested in this too. I want to go back when the new Edge comes out to play with its MyFordTouch, I think it will be interesting to see also.


This was where I was at a little while ago. I know it's just $35-40 bucks but it does add up, and I'd rather do something with my wife or buy a few more groceries, stuff like that.

 

What costs $35-40 a month? For the satellite radio subscription? You don't have to subscribe to Sirius if you don't want. You can get Sirius with either of the Shaker systems, too. The only subscription thing that is available with EP and not the Shaker is the Travel Link. After the free six month subscription is up, the only time I will subscribe to Sirius radio and Travel Link is for one month when I'm going on a lengthy road trip.

 

The additional cost per month to add the EP to the order for my car. As a college grad, that's a lot of coin right up front, but I'm a tech-geek, and the EP is right up my alley.

 

Ahhh . . . gotcha. It's definitely a luxury item. It's pretty hard to justify for practical purposes, but the same goes for getting a car with a 400 hp engine. I know the first time I saw Ford's voice activated navigation system and that beautiful screen at an auto show, I wanted one.

 

I keep telling myself this car will be my last ditch attempt at living in the fast lane. After it's done, I'll probably be married with kids and won't have the luxury of owning a fine automobile like this. That's why I'm thinking of going all out and getting the options I want, EP included.

Just have to make sure she understands the full package she's getting into. If she doesn't know you well enough to know that your moderately expensive sports car is a requirement, not an option, then she needs to get to know you better before any kind of life changing decision like marriage. Most people assume that cars aren't a big deal for most, or that you'll grow out of it when you get family responsibility. You know, you have a Mustang GT now, but in five years when you're married and have a family, you'll trade it in on a Toyota with good gas mileage and an automatic like a good law-abiding citizen.

As far as I'm concerned, my car will be a Mustang for all eternity. My first car was a Mustang. My second car was a Mustang. My- well, wait, I'm only on my second.

There are many assumptions there, and they apply to 95% of the population, but it can cause problems with a relationship when later on you suddenly clarify that this is your lifestyle, as it makes you look like you're being irresponsible by insisting on getting a new sports car when you say you need a new car, and money she expects to have in her mind suddenly won't be there, and so on. Just have to make sure she knows this is an aspect of you, and this won't change. Of course you can still be reasonable about it and not sell your daughter into prostitution for a Corvette ZR1, but you catch my drift. If I get married, I'm making sure it's to a girl that will let me keep my lifestyle.
