Is a tune an MUST? what will happen if I install the CAI without tuning the engine? I don't mind minimal HP gain. If it will help sound my Mustang a little better, I'm satisfied.
Well, not exactly. There are some nice CAIs out there that do not require a tune. Someone mentioned Airaid. You do not want to install one that requires a tune without getting the tune. The car will not run correctly, or may not run at all. But, as long as you realize that you will have very little or no HP gain than an Airaid would be good for you. Looks and sounds good. A lot of $ for something that only looks and sounds good, but heck we all spend $ on things that only look good on our Mustangs all the time. I think that the HP gains claims by all the manufactures for both tuned and untuned CIAs are mostly "smoke and mirrors" , but I still might get one!

If you heard my Borla ATAK Catbacks before the CAI and then heard it after the CAI... You'd say great investment.

I was thinking of going with Roushe..See link. Inexpensive and doesn't need a tune.

If you don't want to do a tune, I'd advise getting something else. If your engine doesn't need to be re-tuned when you add the CAI, it's probably not worth it!

For just a little more, you could get the Borla axlebacks. Or save up and get the catbacks!

Not necessarily. What is a great investment for one person may not be for another. That, plus the fact I do not like the sound of Borlas at all. LOL

Meh, maybe you don't like the soundbites... I get that. If you don't like the way my car sounds IRL then I question your manhood. Not liking the sound of my exhaust is akin to enjoying your vasectomy.

No problem, I took it as a joke. I also hope you can hear the joking nature in this:
Perhaps you need the Borlas to make up for some physical deficiency relating to your manhood.

Nope. The 5 liter motor fills that gap quite nicely. :-)

lol. I have a 14mo old. Mine's working just fine.

My joke about the joke is that my borlas are an extension of my extension(the 5.0) of my big 10 inch record.
Yep. That's an aerosmith joke that I'm way too young to know.

All joking aside, a higher flowing CAI will dramatically improve your exhaust note!

Yeah I did! On the 5.1 surround, it sounded like "satan's chariot."
:-)
I still think you'd agree my Borla's sound amazing. Perhaps less refined than the Corsa's at WOT but just as gnarly.

So I have decided to go with the Airaid CAI (about $300 on american muscle) without the tune. Can you guys confirm one last time that it won't void my warranty, and that I will still get some minor boost in HP and engine will sound better even without a tune?

I love the sound of my GT500 mufflers, but if it can make it sound slightly better Im all in!

Warranty is only an issue if you have a problem that can be tied to the intake as the cause, which is rare. You may get a small HP bump but any difference you feel will be placebo effect, as the gains are small. Sound, maybe. Personally, exhaust sound is better than intake sound.

Late model resto has a sale right now that if you buy an air raid CAI you get 50 bucks rebate!

Check it out or mention that to AM.

Even the non-independent tests I have seen always do the dyno test with the hood open and a fan blowing on the engine compartment. That's not the "real world" conditions that these CAI have to operate in.
