Challenger SRT392 vs Mustang GT 5.0
Challenger SRT392 vs Mustang GT 5.0
Obvioulsy the SRT392 is $10k-$15k more than the Mustang GT... so it's not really an apples to apples comparison...
...but how do these cars stack up against eachother?
Has anyone actually driven an SRT392 yet?
I have always been a MoPar fan but the Mustang GT appealed to me more than the comparably priced Challenger R/Ts both on acceleration, handling, seating position, size, etc. and many of these characteristics carried over, even in the more expensive SRT8 model.
Does the massive new wallop of horsepower and retuned suspension in the new SRT offset the old car's shortcomings?

I personally think the challenger looks awesome but I was looking for looks and overall performance for a lower price. Which is exactly what the mustang is and always should be.

I suspect that autox/road course times would be no comparision... the Mustang's weight advantage would be overwhelming.
I wanna know how it shifts from car an driver online
It's a great LOOKING car. If they could drop about 700 pounds off of it, it would be a world beater.
There is a pretty good new video of it on Jay Leno's garage if anyone is interested.

Next major redesign I bet they'll drop a good amount of weight to at least get into Camaro territory
The problem with hopes of weight reduction is that they have to anticipate selling enough of these cars to justify drastically modifying the current Mercedes E Class platform (since developing a challenger specific platform is out of the quetsion).
As far as I know, not too many sporty coupes justify that kind of investment except the Mustang.
The Charger just got a major (and mostly awesome) refresh...and it's heavier than ever. IIRC, it went up by over 100lbs.

I love my Mustang .. that said if i ever got out of it for another 4 seater pony car i would have this on the TOP of my short list !! just love the look of the Blue with white stripe !! But by the time i tire of my 5.0 i doubt i will be needing the extra seats and then that opens the door for some 2 seaters in about the same price range.. used but good price range i think
(ya i know there isn't much of a list of 4 seater pony cars LOL)

Havent driven the new challenger 392 but I was at the auto show last weekend in Toronto and sat in one. I can tell you the fit/finish, quality of materials and overall design of the interior is horrible in the challenger. Really disappointing for such an expensive car, and for one that looks and sounds so great from the exterior.
Mustang is still king in my books.
