Center Console Cable Routing

How do you route a cable from inside the center console to the outside? There's a notch in the side, but the lid still crushes any cable I try and route through there. I can't figure out how you're supposed to do it...

IIRC, there is a notch that opens out to the cup holder area for cable routing, just have to leave the cup holder lid open.

I ran a flat audio cable through that notch. Then just pressed it into the small gap between the plastic shift panel and console. I will get some pics later. Install was for an xm radio.

I routed a USB cable from the console into the chip holder area and am still able to close the lid. It's tight, but hasn't damaged the cable yet.

I currently route both cables through the front. It's tight but I guess it works. There's a notch in the side, though...it would seem that is where you're supposed to route them, but then the lid just crushes it.

Is going through the front really the only way?

On a more serious note, I took a couple of photos of my cable run. In the first one you see a large blob in the bottom of the frame and that is the cap for the power socket. In the upper right corner of the frame you see that there is a hole that leads into the cup holder area and the USB cable that is plugged into a power adapter that is plugged into the power port is running through that hole. The photo is not very good, but that is a tough spot to shoot.

In the next shot you see the cable in the cup holder area. If you hold the cup holder lid part way open you can feed the cable through the hole and into the cup holder area. I normally keep the cable coiled and stuffed into the forward cup area, but there is a good bit of length available if I need it. The lid has not damaged the cable and it has been opened and closed a number of times.
