Carbon Fiber Body Panels

So along with a supercharger this spring, I'm thinking about getting a carbon fiber hood... The price it's running at currently is $1,400.... A little steep, yes. But being that I googled quite steadily the past few days and only found one authentic dealer... There's not a huge market yet as there are for an 05-09...

Anywho, it's the direct hood supplied to the Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s 2010 drifter. (minus the paint job on it.) It's a total stock look, which is what I want too... no funny hood grill inserts or mixing up of the lines... OEM look.

As I'm still iffy on it I'm wondering what's everyone's opinion on Carbon Fiber body work?? Being younger, I really like the appearance of it, plus it weights in at just under 5lbs!! And going on a black car is to me, one of the best look for carbon fiber pieces...

But still I don't know yet...
What's everyone's take?

If you want it just for looks, I'd say just keep your $1400. It'll be kinda cheesy IMO.

BUT if you're trying to save weight for racing or something then maybe....

It looks great on the Vaughn gittin car, however like stangfoeva said i think it might look a bit cheesy unless u go all out and have a carbon fiber theme on your car. I say spend the $1400 on suspension mods because I think you'll get more enjoyment out of them vs a hood.

Yeah, there are better ways to spend that kind of money, that you would get more enjoyment out of. Like Jason said above, unless you're racing and REALLY need to save the weight, then it's basically just for looks....but you want it to look OEM so I'm sure the point. For that kind of cash you could probably get w spoiler, GT500 rear apron, hood scoop, and quarter window covers. I realize these may not be the specific appearance ad-ons you'd go for, but just to put it in perspective...

I'd save the money for something else.

I would wait for a cheaper CF hood, but do it if you want. I wouldn't leave it just CF though, paint part of it, and leave the CF showing through like they were stripes. A Roush Stage 3 stripe (top part of "dome") or Steeda style (though I would also paint the front edge) would look great IMHO. Even better if you add a pin stripe on the edge.

You could also get a matching CF trunk and leave the "blackout" part CF, but paint the rest to "complete" the look.

I think it would be great if done right. I would try and do a 'chop for you, but don't quite have the time right now. Email me if you want more ideas.

I'd do it too, but the hood is aluminum and not steel; maybe front fenders or rear trunk to shave weight for track...Its your car- go for it!

So I'm in no way shape or form a photoshop expert... in fact, I did this on MS Paint through careful copy/pasting in like 15 min. It's off the Gittin Jr. car. It's not perfect. But it's an idea, and if done correctly IMO it can look good.

Plus... if it strikes me right there's the possibility to do the roof, and the trunk lid to give it almost another dimension. (and the cumulative weight of them is under 12 lbs. for $2,300 in parts). I'm in no way sold, I'm but just brainstorming...

Then just a few pics that highlight the sections... and the look it can give under different lighting.

God I love that car. So sick. But spend the money and get the car riding/handling right first.
