Car makes a clicking sound when pressing on brakes from Parking to Drive. Sound is coming from center dashboard. However it only makes that noise when turning on the car and stepping on the brakes. Afterwards, it doesn't make the clicking noise when driving and pressing on brakes. This normal?

Got an 13 GT Auto.

Thanks!

To shift out of park, you have to press the brake. This activates a relay or solenoid in the shifter, and this is likely what you're hearing.

Does your mustang make that sound too? I never had this sound before till now. I did more research and although it does not interfere with performance it is more of a annoyance.

I have a 2005. But yes, it makes the sound. I rarely notice it, since the radio is already on by that time.

That is what the sound is. My 2011 v6 makes this same sound. I also say the clicking sound is normal.

It's the bomb that lunatic ex-gf you had in high school put under your driver seat that was supposed to trigger the first time you pushed the brake pedal, but she forgot to hook up the actuator to the detonator. She's a lunatic, after all. Run.

Shift interlock solenoid.
Normal sound.
Releases the shifter, allowing it to move out of park once you put the foot on the brake.

My '13 GT auto makes a similar, but considerable quieter sound.

Maybe the noise level is temperature dependent.

my 1998 Honda CRV beater also makes that sound... automatic too, so, I guess it's the same thing.

My 2016 Infiniti does not make that sound though. Hmmmmm. Automatic too of course.

That's called sound deadening material.
Lack of, and extensive use of, respectively

It definitely makes you feel like you're "in" one, that's for sure. It is definitely NOT fun to drive, still gets 22mpg in town for an SUV, but it's reliable, AWD, room for the kids, room in the hatch/trunk, and body is in decent enough shape to not look bad, but I also never have to wash it. = equals low levels of stress for me.
