The GT500 will be my choice hands down once I get the insurance break at 25. Else I'd consider one now...

The Corvette has better options:
Magnetorheostatic shocks
Head-up Display
Bi-modal exhaust
It'll compete against much more expensive European super cars

Mustang doesn't compare against Corvette though man...different purposes for the cars. I have two baby seats in the back of my GT500, a Radian XT and a Chicco Keyfit 30!

Used Z51 will be same price as GT and kill it both stock and mod for mod. If a Vette will fit into your lifestyle get one over any Mustang.

For me personally, that stuff doesn't matter. Don't get me wrong the corvette IS an awesome car and a great performer but in my neck of the woods.....corvette=old guy

The shocks should matter to you.

Not many cars have a HUD, which is helpful. My Cobalt has a programmable display that is on the A-pillar. I use its digital speedo and VU meter tach instead of the analog gauges. I'd love to have a HUD.

The magnetorheostatic shocks give you the best of both worlds, a must-have for any driving enthusiast.

The bi-modal mufflers are also the best of both worlds.

These are not old-man options, they're currently only found on expensive European supercars, so the C6 Vette still remains the best bang/buck for a sports car.

Not enough to merit wanting a vette over a gt500....especially since it wont see any track duty apart from the occasional amateur night in Fontana which will be strictly for fun

and don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the vette IS an old man car, it just has the stereotype. just a matter of personal preference

I think if I had no kids I'd be in a Z06. The GT500 was a good compromise. I've driven Mustangs for 17 years.

The one car I really thought disappointing was the Nismo Z, only about a second difference between the Mustang and Nismo (the Nismo had 30hp and was around 200 pounds lighter with 245/40R19s and 285/35R19's front and rear). I would have thought the Z with its better equipment would have been closer to the SS in lap times.

Even after the 25-year-old driver decrease, the GT500 is still going to cost an arm and a leg to insure (give or take based on residence).

Agree. A Recaro car seat holds my little "racerette" so a two-seat sports car isn't an option unless I want to buy a separate daily driver. Then again, once I don't need the rear seats, the Corvette still won't be on my short list unless they fix the awful styling.

They crashed that 370Z Nismo because the brakes failed. C&D has been doing a LOT of testing on Nissan brakes and quite a few of their performance models have brakes that fade easily. Their Infinitis, Nissan 350Z w/ Track package, etc... all had horrible brake performance. This was covered in an older issue. After they crashed the 370Z in this test, Nissan came out with a solution to replace all pads with a special performance formulation. I suspect the pad formulation would allow the brakes to overheat very easily, much like the stock GT brakes.

If you read the article, they said how the brake pedal went from firm to the bottom of the carpet without warning. At least with the WRX, they got to the point where it was impossible to heel-toe downshift so they didn't bother to use the clutch and just revmatched the shifts all the way. Hilarious. I hope OEMs start to pick up on this and equip cars with better brakes from the get-go. We don't all race but I can overheat my brakes from normal stop-go driving in my commute. It is easy to go from 0-60 MPH, 60-0 MPH, rinse, repeat 50 times, in a typical SE MI highway commute if there's an accident or slowdown.

Your opinion. The 2010 GT TP has been widely lauded by every automotive journalist as being extremely balanced and precise. Buying a few expensive suspension components does not automatically make it better.

Precise for an OEM Mustang. Hate to break this to you, but automotive "journalists" are generally idiots. They've been bashing Mustangs for decades, I guess it's all true too?

It's my opinion that the Michelin PS2 is superior to the P Zeros? LOL.

It's an opinion that an ADJUSTABLE suspension that can be tuned PER TRACK is superior to a fixed OEM suspension? LOL.

It's my opinion that aftermarket 14" rotor 4 pot brembos are superior to a 2 pot caliper on a stock GT rotor? LOL.

Anyways, whatever. Do you race open track events?

Yes, but owning a Vette means you have to live with....

....seats that are unbelievably bad in every way
....an interior that would look low rent in a Cobalt SS unless you plop down ten grand for the package/s that will let you opt for the 'upgraded' interior, and the upgraded interior still isn't as nice as what you would find in a Honda Accord though it is better than the base trim.
....steering feel that reminds of vehicles that float and use a rudder when it comes time to turn them.

If cheap speed is all you care about by all means the Vette is really tough if not impossible to beat in it's price tange. If virtually anything else matters to you......build quality, comfort, interior fit and finish, steering feel, rewarding to drive and not just a rush to drive......then there are other sports cars which are arguably a better choice. Cayman S comes to mind. Faster? No. Better? Oh yeah.

So you decided to go ahead and have your rims widened. Cool! I know you were a little hesitant. Hope they turn out well and hope you "hook" better!

I think in 2015 i'm going to buy a used 2010 Shelby GT500. What do you think they will be selling for then? Maybe around 30k?
