Capless Tank and funnel??

Stupid Question, I know. But I went to try out some Torco fuel and have never attempted to use a funnel on a capless system. I'm guessing there is a trick here. I guess it has to do with the diameter and design of the gas pumps that allows it to open. Any tricks I can do to release it?

There is a white plastic filler tube on top of the spare tire which allows use of a gas can.

you have a funnel for the capless system in the trunk by the spare tire. You insert the funnel and it releases the cap lock.

Not a stupid question at all! I didn't realize I wasn't releasing it until I had Stabil all over my shoes, felt like a jackass, then resorted to the owners manual to find that it was located with the spare.

SPARE TIRE? I need to go check. I've never looked under the carpet in the trunk, but I didn't think the 2012 GT came with a spare tire. What a surprise that will be if I find one!

Should be able to use a long thin funnel like a transmission funnel if the small stock emergency funnel is too short and small to poor in the TORCO.

And on cars that come without the spare tire, the emergency funnel is in the same holder as the mobility kit air pump.

Be careful what you stick down there. I used a thin 3/8 diameter funnel from AutoZone that was ribbed and it gut stuck when I tried to pull it out. Found out the hard way. I was able to use a screwdriver to push the little door open and get the tube out but for a min I thought I was up the creek. Lol.

Spare tire is an option, not all cars have them.

There is a little button or tab that needs to be pressed when putting a funnel in

Use the provided funnel located in the trunk, under the mat, rather than one you have in the garage. That filler neck is expensive to replace should you bust it with some other funnel. Some may have the spare tire option, some may have the compressor and "fix a flat" option. Either way, there will be a funnel provided, unless you bought the Mustang used, and a previous owner removed it.

One other thing: bring the owners manual into the bathroom....there's a wealth of information you can learn about your Mustang. Better than trying to solve the worlds problems while sitting in there.

Great advice. Also, you could buy a spare for $8 to keep in your garage. I just ordered one a few days ago.

When I read the owners manual I was surprised that it sounded disposable...

"5. When done, clean the funnel or properly dispose of it. Extra funnels
can be purchased from your authorized dealer if you choose to dispose
of the funnel."

I find that surprising. The salesman was SUPPOSED to explain the tire inflator/spare tire setup, the capless gas tank, and the emergency funnel when you bought the car. Obviously someone didn't do their job very well.

They're throwing a lot of information at you in a short period of time. All the time your subconscious is screaming at you, "Lets drive that Mustang". It's just hard to remember everything.

I think it was an optinal "delete".

Mine was a Base GT and had it (along with the funnel).

If you had factory Brembos, no spare tire b/c it wouldn't clear the brakes.

I can relate to this...even after 30 years of buying cars, I still shut down the brain after signing the contract. I try to do pre-financing so I can eliminate that part, but after all the "i's" are dotted and "t's" crossed, my mind is telling me to get into the new car and drive off.

Then at night, when nature calls, I grab the owners manual and read....
