California Emissions?
I'm looking at a 2011 Roush but it has California Emissions. Can anyone provide me more info on what is added/changed with the system? Can this be tuned out or just tuned in general? Am I looking at any decrease in power?
THANKS!!!

I think it has to do with Ford being required to have a warrenty on the emission control systems. I don't think the mustangs sold in CA are any different than those sold in AZ or any other state.
Except that we pay 8.75% in sales tax on them...

I'm in Tennessee and have a sticker on the inside of my hood on my V-6 when opened that says "California. Not for sale in states with California emission standards".
I remember back when California first started their strict emission standards (1970's?) in magazine test (Motor Trend, etc.), the California emission cars had 5 to 8 less (if i remember right) horsepower than cars sold in other states.

Yeah, and in the 70s you couldn't idle the car for more than a few minutes because you'd carbon the motor up that way. A lot has changed since then.
I very, very much doubt the CA cars have any less power than the non-CA cars. I do not, however, know exactly what the changes are. I do know the 5.0 uses an internal EGR system via the Ti-VCT, so there is nothing to add or subtract there, and I am not aware of any smog pump on the engine, CA or not. I would surmise that it boils down to a separate tune on the ECU - which can be flashed anyway.

I know the on 4.6 there was no difference in anything (except maybe the stickers).
I doubt the new engine has any difference either.
The only problem occurs if it doesn't have the CA emissions approval.
Then states like CA and MA will give you real trouble.

I did a fast search and the only thing i could find is California emission approved cars "might" have different catalytic converters. That seems to have been the only thing people were talking about .
