A/C-Power Loss-Black GT
Ok is it just me or does anybody else feel a power loss with the A/C on. I find it quite noticable. And I have been pumping premium only.
Ok I know that the compressor clutch has gotta kick in when on, and I have had 4 bangers and V6's, which I have noticed. But this is a V8.
I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.7L V8 (now my winter ride), lot bigger and heavier, but don't notice a thing. Even gas milage seems not to change. And wow after 10 years she still pumps out the cold air. Who would have thought.
Must be a big compressor on the GT, although I can't see it unless I crawl underneath as both the A/C compressor and the alternator are low on the car. Sheesh my Jeep has a huge compressor.
Also have the glass roof and the electronic package and the auto climate feature, and it never seems to turn down the fan. Although it has been very hot here this summer. (Toronto Area). Have to hit the fan button and it turns the auto feature off. But at least I don't freeze and can hear the car (and stereo). I am sure car being black and the glass roof make the A/C want to pump it out.
Other then my possible percieved power loss I have no problem with a good A/C system.
When I drive local and on the rural roads I turn it off, and stereo, and open the windows. Want to hear the car. Luv it. But no good on freeways. Too much wind.
Black GT-Built 5/18-Delivered 6/24. Almost 5 weeks old. 1600Km so far.
Any thoughts or comments?
Thanks

Do you have a manual transmission, you can always feel any little change with a manual. The Jeep with the automatic would make it much less noticable.
If you are driving a auto GT then i dunno why that would be.

Definitely notice it with my manual. I was quite surprised by this. My 4 banger acura integra seemed to bog a bit when A/C was on, I thought with all the torque of a V8 I would never notice it. I was wrong.

Just go wide open throttle and it'll turn off. You'll get warm but the A/C won't be an issue any more.
Of course, in my case, on a 410 mile stretch of a drive in 90 degree heat it chose to kick off and stay off. Hasn't happened since though.

+1.. yeah, if you push the pedal all the way down, the compressor will disengage.

but in other news i have noticed the decrease a little but its nothing compared to my mazda 6 I4 (love that car to death regardless of its lack of power)
