Bumped 2014

So I was sitting in a turning lane, did not get the green arrow because I was not sitting there soon enough, and a lady in a Honda SUV pulls up behind me and stops. The opposing traffic got the green and the arrow. The light turned green for us, but not the arrow. Heavy traffic is moving in the other lane at 45 mph. So I don't even let off the brake to roll or anything. Then out of nowhere, she rams into the back of me. Great. I was having an awesome week, then this happened. Bumper is shot, rear support panel bent, plastic pieces broken, trunk lid won't shut right, etc.
I did not see her because I was watching the traffic headed the other way but I'll bet she was texting, and when the cars beside her took off when the light turned green, she just floored it thinking we had a green arrow.
So now my car is sitting in the garage, insurance saying it's undrivable because the trunk won't seal properly and a tag light is hanging down, and I am in a rental. At least she is insured and was very apologetic.
The good news, I have a friend who does awesome body work and is the manager of a local body shop, knows my claim adjuster and everything, so the car will be as good as new once he is done with it. Just an inconvenience.

Glad you're OK. To do that damage accelerating from a dead stop, she must have really hit the go-pedal hard. Good luck.

She hit so hard, I thought someone had ran into the back of her pushing her into me.

What a moron. Sorry to see that! The good news is the only damage is plastic. Nothing else (that I can see), so new bumper and some adjustment on the trunk, and no paint blend! I would get the RTR license plate panel while you're at it, and maybe the quad exhaust as was already mentioned.

Just an excuse to upgrade now!

Tom...hush....

Looks like my car, I'm sad to see a brother SGM damaged. Good luck with the repair, it doesn't look that serious but, there is always more than meets the eye with these things.

The panel behind the bumper is bent as well. The trunk does not shut right. A new panel will have to be welded in. Depending on what has to be replaced will depend on upgrades. I'd love to go dual tip GT500's with a GT500 spoiler, but those things, as far as I can tell, did not get damaged. I looked at Boss 302 diffusers already and do not like them as much as the stock piece.

If the trunk is out of whack, it's more than just plastic. That's indicative of rear body panel damage...probably not severe, but it's still going to require a measurement and pull on a rack. Without seeing the damage with the bumper off it's a guess right now, but I don't think any welding needs to be done from what I see now. It always remains a possibility though.

Sorry to see another SGM get wacked. Glad no one got hurt. Sounds like you got it covered. Best of luck and hope it all gets back as new. Now you can make any changes you wanted at little or no cost. Keep us updated.

Not in New Jersey. I am in Mississippi, where people think their cell phones need to be in their hands to drive. Pretty sure that was the case here. Makes no sense otherwise. I was busy looking out my windshield waiting for a clear spot in the traffic so I did not see what she was doing before she floored it and rammed my rear bumper.

I feel your pain. I have been rear ended and have done it too. Years ago before having a Mustang and a cell phone I did that exact same thing. I was looking at my checkbook while waiting at a light. Light turned green and I saw the other lane move so without looking I hit the gas but luckily I noticed in time to hit the brakes slowing down the impact. Did no damage our cars. We had the green light but the car in front of the one I hit had not moved yet. They too were not paying attention. I felt so stupid.

My 07 Mustang convertible was rear ended by a teen driver. The damage was nearly identical to yours. Once it was repaired, could not tell anything had happened.

Sorry to see this. At least it wasn't as bad as mine was. A guy hydroplaned on the interstate and smacked the crap of of my Mustang

get your tail lights looked at and make sure there are no hairline cracks that were missed. those puppies would be an expensive repair if you had to get them fixed later on.

Got dam... another one.

Hope it turns out ok for you in the end. Now might be a good time to "upgrade" to a 2011-12 rear.

p.s. and yes, she was texting I'm sure.
