Brembos or Track Pack wheels

Seeing that the new Brembo brake package has new wheels, which wheels do we get if we order the track pack? I like the current 19in track pack wheels, the new ones with the Brembo package are nice but just not for me.

Any thoughts?

I'm guessing the new track pack will come with the new 19's....just a guess though

There wasn't anything in the press release that talked about a Track Pack. From what I read it seems like it was replaced by the brake package, with some of the suspension parts from the 2010 Track Pack are now going to be standard on the 2011 GT.

If anybody knows different then let us know. I would also like to know what wheels are offered for the 2011. I'm not too keen on the ones that come with the brake package.

From the spec pdf, it looks like the 5-spoke 19s from the 2010 track pack are gone. The new, dark finish 19s have taken their place (with the Brembo package). They may roll the 2010 TP into the 2011 Brembo package, and we might have more goodies that come with it (racking the price up a bit). Right now it's just too early to tell until the order banks open and we can see what's available.

Also, they mention something about:

18 x8.0-inch sterling gray metallic painted aluminum wheels (MCAS Edition)

Anyone know what that might be?

Based on photos from the L.A. Auto Show, I believe they are a grey painted version of the polished aluminum 10-spoke 18" wheels that are optional on the 2010 GT and standard with the 2010 V6 Pony Package.

The spec sheet showed the tire size to be the same as the 2010 Mustang. At 235/50/R18 which seems too narrow for a car with over 400 HP. Can that be right? I was expecting at least 255 thead width.

Maybe I'll be working another deal with Discount Tire for some new after market tires/wheels for my OEM takeoffs. That worked pretty well the last two times.

This time maybe some Shelby Torque thrust M's with BFG KDW's in 255/45/R18 in the front and 285/40/R18 in the rear. NEED WIDER TIRES!

So as of right now there is now Track Pack. I thought they had a few spy shots of them testing out a new track pack that ran even with the 414hp M3.

Anyone got pics of the new wheels by chance?
Are they the GT500 wheels (since the brakes are)? Or a new style?

Like I said, there wasn't anything that talked about it in the Ford Press release, but they did talk about the new brake package. I think they took some of the components from the 2010 Track Pack and made them standard. Here's from the press release.

The 2011 Mustang GT features an enhanced rear lower control arm to add stiffness, improve powertrain NVH control and sharpen handling. A stiffened rear stabilizer bar for better on-center steering is also included. Stabilizer bar diameters, spring rates and dampers all have been tuned for improved dynamics.

I thought the parts in bold were part of the 2010 Track Pack weren't they? They would have to beef up the suspension to some degree since the 2011 GT has over a hundred more HPthen the 2010 GT!

According to the spec sheet they are 19X9 so they aren't the GT500 wheel which is 19x9.5. A 9" wheel will definitely support a 265 tire and possibly a 275 tire.

The 03-04 Cobras ran 17x9s with 275s all around, so we should be good. Profiles may be a little tricky. Played around on http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp and you'll have either a tall or short sidewall. Good news either way though.

I think the best option is just to buy real rims ( 9" is pathetic if you want real tires on these cars ) and better brakes from the aftermarket. The GT500 brembos are nothing special. I think you can get better wheels and brakes for about the price of the Brembo package from Ford.

The GT500 brakes aren't anything special because of the porky 3,900+ lb curb weight. In a car with 300 lbs less curb weight, the 14" Brembos should work very well.

Cutting 300 lbs off the GT500 would let it stop around 3 - 4 feet sooner @ 60 MPH. . You won't tell the difference with the brakes on the GT or the GT500. The 3603 curb weight you are using is also the base curb weight. Have you ever weighed a Brembo front brake kit and compared to an OEM GT? A 19" wheeled Brembo laden GT won't be 3603 lbs. Are you buying a no option car? If the base GT curb is 3603, expect a 19"/Brembo car with decent options to weigh 3700 or so. 3700 = light as a feather and 3920 = porky? LOL. Stop the hate of the car you don't have.

Bottom line is, buy better brakes aftermarket. Will cost the same and net more performance. Ford is sticking it to you with that wheel choice as well.

Why are these brakes not up to the task? Just curious since the 2011 GT is lugging around 300 lbs less weight compared to a 2010 GT500 (3603 vs 3920).

The rotors are basic OEM caliber, that's why. Did you weigh a Brembo/19" rim GT against a GT500 to come up with your 300 lbs difference?
