Guys-
I was brought to my attention that Nissan dropped the Brembo package from the G coupes because customers were shocked by the cost of replacement parts and service and filed law suits over this.

Does anyone know if we Brembo folks will have a similar shock when the brakes need service?

 

I dont think they are.

Pads will be in the $75 - $250 range depending on purpose or vendor
Replacement rotors from $70-$1000 depending on need, quality and vendor.

Replacement parts of the calipers not sure what they cost but these brakes should be very reliable and probably trouble-free.

I would probably be more worried about the tire replacement cost as opposed to the brake costs.

 

Go look for pads for an 07-09 GT500 and see what the cost is. I'd guess very close or the same as the 2011 Brembos.

I bought aftermarket pads for my GT500 to get rid of the brake dust and they were $160.

 

This is my biggest concern. 255s are much rarer (and thus more expensive) than 245s, and 265s are almost non-existant. I wish they had gone with a 9.5" rim, so that we could get into the 275s. And what's a 400hp car doing with tires this narrow anyway? My '98 cobra has 245s on there, and that was 305hp.

 

Well you can totally run 275s on the Brembo package wheels, it's not ideal but it is within the specs for a 9 inch wheel. The 03 Cobra did this and the current Camaro does as well. I did a search for tires, the trick is to find a good set of matching tires in 245/45 for front and 275/40 out back. Options are pretty limited.

 

Hmm.. I'm not sure I would go that wide on those rims. Back on my '85 5.0, I once put 245s on there instead of 225s, and while the grip was there, the handling was never as crisp, as the car would kinda 'shift' on the tires whenever weight was transferred from one side to the other.

Anyone have any experience going 20mm wider than spec on a rim?

 

Oh yeah, it's definitely less than ideal for track purposes, but I don't think it's so bad that you would get irregular tread wear if it was just used for street driving. I've seen folks on this and other boards running 295 or 305 on the 08-09 polished aluminums (8.5), and I just shake my head.

 

I'm trying to order track pads and I can't seem to find a source yet for these Brembos. Anyone have a link for pads that will fit this Brembo package?

 

The driving style has an impact on these expenses.

Racing to a red light, then braking, uses extra gas, extra brake pad wear and extra rotor wear.

Look way down the road to plan acceleration / deceleration and that will reduce these operating costs / wear.

My read is that the OP was talking about excessive maintenance expenses on the Brembo brakes.

My read is that my reply directly addresses that issue.

 

So does buying a Honda and throwing an anchor out the window every time you want to slow down. My point is, one doesn't buy a 412hp sports car with massive brembos on the front so they can drive around like a grandma.

This is not to discount your point - it is a good one; everybody could stand to focus on their driving habits, but it's simply not relevant to the topic at hand. Even if you drive like a grandma, you are eventually gonna have to replace the pads.

 

Talk to Stinger (Shaun), I know he's got a set of track pads after chatting with him last week. Rehagen Racing stocks them or knows which ones to get for those of you interested.

 

You drive your car your way and I'll do the same.

BTW, for my last ride, the terrific drivers on-line that were racing to every stop light were getting 10-20K miles on their pads and I was getting well over 100K. So my brake costs were ~10-20% of theirs.
