Bought used Brembo wheels/tires the other day...

First I would like to say, I scored an awesome deal on these, $600 for all 4 wheels and tires, couldn't pass that up According to the man I bought them from, two of them have 3500 miles and the other two have 6500 miles, still practically new. But one suffered some curb rash. It's not crazy bad on the rim itself, but the tire has been cut into a bit, close to the bead. Should I worry about a possible blow out since that area of a tire goes through quite a bit of flexing?

I may go ahead and buy the SR springs that are on sale currently on AM, anyone have any idea how much longer that sale lasts?

I'm not sure if the Brembo wheels are painted our polished but the curb rash area can be sanded down smooth and then touched up. Takes a little bit of time, but you can make to where you can't see unless you are looking for it.
As far as the tire, I think it will be ok as long as you aren't auto crossing.

As long as they are straight they will be fine. You can always have the rim repaired. There a few good repairs places out there.

Iam wanting to put a Rim protector on mine the color of the car. Like these.

You can get them in many colors. Just might hide the rash.

Nice! I wish I could find a set that cheap.

Not sure about the tire. Hopefully it looks worse than it is.

I'd replace that tire. That's a pretty significant gash into it.

Oh, if you're driving it for the time being, make sure it's on the back! Front blowouts are terrifying.

Agreed, but hang on to it as a spare.

The wheel is an easy fix for a good wheel repair guy but the tire needs to go.

I took a chunk like that out of the sidewall of my BFG KDWII 3 years ago, and it's still doing fine, no issues whatsoever.

It's right by the bead, which is a steel band in the tire, that will hold it together, and that rubber there is not structural to the tire.

It's up to you, but if you get the rim repaired they'll probably have to remove the tire, then I'd get a new one. If you're not going to get it repaired, I'd keep it on there.

Yeah I guess I'll hold on to it, these tires aren't gonna last anymore than 15k miles probably. In the mean time I just ordered some SR lowering springs, soon a panhard bar too.

^ this. Not worth the safety risk to not get a new tire.

As for wheel itself, easily repaired. Dozens of aluminum/alloy wheel repair shops around.

I found my Brembo rims and tires for $750 with only 300 miles. The deals are out there. Look at the craigslist listing in areas close to you, but maybe not your local listing. I found mine just north of Tampa and I live about 2 hours away. I also found the GT500 exhaust about 1.5 hours away and I was traveling to that area the next weekend anyway. No shipping costs and I got a great deal.

They were hard to come by though... Seemed like most of the time when I saw them up for sale somewhere, the brembo wheel/tire combos were at least $1,000 to $1,200 if they were in perfect shape with low miles.
