Bought 2011 GT New pics added 8/22

EDIT 8/22: I added some better pics. I am a very bad photographer. Best pic of the bunch has my thumb in it.

First, thanks to all on these forums for their advice and expertise. I elected to buy the car that I found locally and have the dealer add the 3.73s. Here is the rundown on what I bought:

Race Red
6 MT
401A Brick Red/Cashmere
Comfort Pkg
Security Pkg
HIDs

Dealer mods: add 3.73s, fill and paint holes for front plate (I like a clean front bumper)

I pick it up tomorrow and will schedule the paint work and 3.73s for next week or the week after. Also planning to add tint during one of those visits.

I plan to swap out wheels with pkg from CruzinConcepts. WIll either choose plain black bullitts or motorsport bullitts in 20x8.5 and 20x10 with 255 rubber up front and 295 out back.

No drop planned for now. I know it will look odd but San Antonio roads are horrible lately due to the fact that nearly every road is under construction.

Looking forward to being an active member.

Prior FoMoCo products: 71 Mercury Cougar 351C/C6 modded, 74 Lincoln Continental Mk IV 460/4bbl, 80 Mustang 4cyl, 96 Mustang GT (totaled 8 days later), 96 Mustang GT, 04 EB Expedition

Newpony,

I am guessing you are seeing a red X when you click my links. If that is correct, please point me to the proper way to post pics and I'll fix it. Thanks.

Congratulations... I'm surprised that this car was actually in stock! Lucky you! Here in our area it's hard to find GT's with any kind of special packages... just the plain ones.

Have fun with it!

There wasn't a single RR, 6MT, comfort, security, HID, 3.73, 401A car without upgraded rims or Brembo, etc anywhere in Texas, Oklahoma, or Louisiana according to 3 dealers I was speaking to. Closest was a car in Oklahoma but it had the Shaker 1000. Not into paying another 1200 bucks for a stereo that adds like 80lbs to the trunk. I didn't want 19s because I planned to change wheels and tires out anyway.

That's why I elected to have the dealer install the 3.73s. It is a huge dealership with a full service shop, collision center etc. I have to cross my fingers that they will do the install correctly. It will be covered under warranty anyway but I don't want to have to keep dragging it back to the dealer to have repairs.

BTW....I'll have some fresh 18 inch take offs in the for sale forum shortly ;-) Any takers?

Well, I picked her up today. The ride is very different from the BMW but it is great fun. It is much more tolerant of the bumps/potholes/etc than the 335i.

Acceleration is very good and should be much better once the 3.73s are in. The interior is awesome and the SYNC/Shaker/MYCOLOR etc are fantastic.

Only negative is that I noticed my decklid is bolted in crooked. The driver's side is sitting forward and down while the other side is somewhat rearward and raised. We're talking about 5mm or so. I asked my salesman to have it corrected while it is in the bodyshop to have the front plate holes filled/painted.

He was very exasperated and said "what, you want me to fix the whole car?" (I had sent it back to detail twice because it was covered in spots and had a sticky substance on the hood/roof.) I said "if that's what it takes, it is not unreasonable to expect my body panels to be aligned. This isn't a mid-80s GM product." He didn't get the GM reference. Either way, he says he'll do what he can.

I can't think of any reason why a body shop couldn't correct the decklid. Have any of you had to have body panels adjusted?

I hasn't ruined my experience but it is disappointing coming back to domestic after 3 euro cars to find a problem like this. I thought things had changed....hopefully this is a fluke.

In all honesty, I am extremely picky and I hold people to their statements. He isn't that bad but he is frustrated with me. I think he is used to being the shot caller on his deals and bullying some customers and I wouldn't budge. I also corrected his numbers...twice (once in front of his boss). I wasn't out of line but I can see how he would be glad to have his interactions with me behind him.

At the end of the day, I am getting exactly what I want at a really good price so I shouldn't complain too much. I just hope the gear swap, plate repair, and trunk alignment go well.

How are you going to display the front plate?

I ask because last I looked, the actual law doesn't really specify WHERE the front plate is to be attached, but it does require it be displayed. Don't know for sure, but I'd think that would be a 'primary' vilolation, and the only excuse needed to pull you over. I suspect every single DPS trooper would write a citation for no front plate... and if it's not a primary, they'd find another reason to stop you and throw that in.
