Boss 302
Boss 302
Cool. Some good observations, I'm very interested in seeing how the Boss shapes up. If these potential engine upgrades are any indication we could be in for something very exciting. I just hope they don't go overboard with styling like the GT350.
Plus it'll save alot of weight over the GT350 because it won't be burdened with all those Shelby emblems and plaques.
I'm really curious to see what they are able to do to the engine. Of course it looks like we have a high flow/performance intake, which is good, but I wonder what else it has. First thing I would think of would be a cam upgrade, but I shudder to think how much that would cost for a DOHC setup. Anybody care to share their thoughts on upgrade possibilities?
Hopefully they make any Boss 302/5.0 a serious performance package with understated, purposeful styling. One could always retroactively apply the peacock treatment, either with factory or aftermarket adornments, should real performance alone not do enough to boost one's ego/testosterone levels. The original Boss was fairly understated but could be tarted up with the usual dross of spoilers (though the original's apparently actual did something beyond puffery), scoops, slats and whatever other jewelry).
I can't imagine Ford proper doing something so ham handed and amateurish as the GT350's styling -- there simply doesn't exist (anymore) enough cheap liquor to either come up with such hideous styling or to find it attractive in the "last call" sort of sense.
That they are doing more than an easy ECU tune plus louder exhaust treatment for the motor seems to indicate a level of seriousness here beyond the usual insipid marketing department driven SE. 10% more power would be very plausible, maybe even more. One wonders if such serious and thorough upgrades will be applied to the chassis too, though the Track Pack/Brembo package already is looking pretty impressive. Perhaps an interesting approach rather than the usual "add more" would be to add lightness, i.e., shave a hundred pounds or so, which would be a much more forward looking approach. Remove some sound deadening, lightweight manual Recaro seats, more aluminum body panels, lightweight forged wheels, CF drive shaft, etc.

We probably won't hear anything official for a bit.
I mean the new engines are JUST coming out.
Price, no idea, but I'd bet somewhere in the lines of smackdab between the GT and GT500.

I think and I hope that because it is Ford doing this SE it will be just as well done as the last two Bullitts, the sn95 Mach 1, and even the recent GT/CS. For each of these SE's purpose I think they did a great job. I think everyone could appreciate them in their own right.

Ford has done a great job following the "less is more" approach to SE styling. Almost without exception, I prefer the styling of Ford/SVT to any of the comparable aftermarket/manufacturer models (Saleen, etc.).
I continue to wait patiently for my BOSS 302.
waiting for my Boss 302...I don't think Ford will do to the Boss what Shelby did to the GT350
there is at least 10% more power lurking in that massive intake, prolly a 7.5k redline too with all that air being sucked in. ford wowed us with the base GT engine i think they will surprise with the Boss version of it
What was that dyno quote rumored for the 5.0 again? 460HP?
