From the pictures I've seen it's removable, but is mounted from the back side of the bumper cover. Basically you would have to remove the rear bumper cover to get at it. I too would prefer it matched the body color.
And while I'm at it, I really do not like those reflectors on the bottom of the rear. It's unnecessary and gaudy looking, like they belong on bicycle pedals.
As for the tail lights, I like them, but not enough to swap out my candy canes for them.

Exactly, engine calibration for all types of conditions and different fuels. The white tube is a thermocouple to monitor temp.

That's a great goal; you should definately do that! There's lots of us TMS'ers up here to show you around and tell you where the cool stuff is.
