Depends what you want with your car. If you want potential performance, GT500, proven to be able to push over 700 with the current internals.

If you just want the nicer interior and are ok with what comes stock, 5.0

GT500 is always going to be the better deal. I personally couldn't live with putting daily driver miles on a Shelby, so I opted for the 5.0 instead.

Why not? it's not a special edition or a collectible...

The way I see it, I don't want to spend big bucks on a car and not get to drive it every day.

Neither were the originals. Have you priced a '68 GT500 lately?

You said it yourself, the 68 was an original. I see the GT500 as another model, not apples to apples to the original. We'll see in 40 years I guess... Also, are quantities produced comparable?

People make a bigger deal about the new GT500s than it really is. I can see maybe the grey with blue stripes being a little more "special", but to buy it and not put miles... well, you can see how much they are going for on ebay and autotrader. Not that special (from a collector's stand point), but from a performance, well, that's a whole 'nother topic!

Maybe it is my age. I remember when GTO Judges and Chevelle SuperSports were cheap used cars that you bought for $3000 and then ragged the hell out of 'em. Neither were collector cars until recently. None of us know where the collector market is going, but I think that a Shelby is a pretty safe bet.

They may not go through the roof, but you'll get at least MSRP plus change if you sell in 30 years.

I go back to the quantities, how easy will it be to get your hands on a cheap 2007+ shelby 20-30 years down the road? There are plenty quantities out there (heck, some of them are around 30K on autotrader! cheaper than a new 5.0), where if you look for an original GT500, you don't find that many out there, which is why since demand is high and supply is low, well, you pay through the nose.

I don't think this latest shelby is going to be a colectors item like the original was, but that's my ignorant opinion
