Thanks... that's good feedback. Which 285 tires are you running on those 9" wheels? The model of tire makes a difference.

Others have seemingly had good luck with RA-11s and M/T Street Comp on 9" wheels.

I run Toyo 888's front and back (the backs are 315's on 20x11's). Mine are 20's though, so I don't know if the 888's come in a 285 for a 19" wheel.

Thanks...this is what I'd assume they would say. There are lots of folks running 285 RA-11s though...and again, while not ideal, it seems that they still work well. Bridgestone won't reccomend it either. I agree that they're fine...but they're half an inch taller than stock. I don't know about you but I paid extra money to change to a 3.55 axle when I ordered my car (should have gone 3.73) so they're not the choice for me since these tires would take me in the wrong direction.
I'm no legal expert, but Mickey Thompson says the 285 are APPROVED on 9.5 - 11 inch wheels. They don't use the word RECOMMEND.
Not sure if there is a difference for doing auto cross vs road use from a legal standpoint.

With the amount of stress you would be putting on the sidewall of your tires, that much give if you use a 285 wouldn't be good for the handling.

I was just wondering if Ford offers the track pack wheels in a wider width like 10" that would us set up our cars staggered and allow for the wider tires? It would be great to have the matching wheels and a staggered stance.

Second this. If you're serious about being competitive in Auto-X, spend a little more time doing research. Almost all the top guys wind up on one of a very few models of tire. I know in the Subaru world, it's been the Dunlop Direzza ZII that's been by far the recommended #1 choice for a few years now. But that's a very different car, weight, driveline type, etc, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Mustang guys go another way.

The trick is finding out where the truly competitive Mustang AutoX guys hang out online (not being coy here, I honestly can't tell you this), then ask your question there.

For a road racing street tire, you're not going to beat the Toyo Proxes 888. I don't autocross so I don't know if they allow slicks, but I'd be surprised to hear of a better road course or turning STREET tire for the Mustang.

Thanks... while he's seemingly not thrilled with the MT Sport Comps, the width doesn't seem to be a factor.

Pilot Cups for the summer. When I get my wheels and tires set for the summer I will just go ahead and spend the loot.

What size are you going with? Are you sticking with the stock 9" wide BBP wheels?

Nope. SSR GTV01, +35 offset, 19x9.5, 22 lbs, 275/40's

Kumho Ecsta XS
Pilot Sport PS2 Z rated version

I need them to hold up when I'm hitting high triple digits.

Well...I'm starting to rethink my priorities and the Michelin Pilot Supersports are available in the stock 255/40/19 size...

Do you think they'll be better than the stockers?

Almost everyone seems to go with the 275/40s so it's hard to find opinions on the 255s.

I'd probably do the 275/40s and run 1" spacers front and rear. The Brembo wheels look good when they're pushed out to the fenders.

Yes. Pilot SS are the best tire in this category.

The Pilot Super Sports are available in 285/35/19. I'm got them on my rear end right now.

Yep. I just went back and looked at Tirerack...and sure enough, they are available. No idea how I missed them last time I looked.

Which wheels are you running?

Apparently those Continental, are the only 285/35R19 tires that can be used with the 9x19 wheels. Probably they will be my next tires, I'm very temped by their wide size. Presently I have 275/40 R19 Michelin Super Sport on my brembo wheels, they look great, handle great and represent no issue with my 3.73 gear. I did not bought them in 285 size, because they needed at least 9.5x19 wheels, too bad.
