Basically, Hawk HPS if you're a true beginner and not ever swapping pads again, and want nice street manners (dust, squeal, etc). HP Plus if you're not wanting to swap pads, and can stand some mild squeal, dust. DTCs if you're going to swap pads for each event.
Similar story with EBC, Reds for beginners, yellows okay for dual duty, blues if you're willing to swap.
PFC, Raybestos, they all have similar stories.

Thanks for explaining the different levels of the brake pads though, I learned something new...Pretty pumped to get the beast out on the track and see what she can do!
That thread is a bit of a beast, but if you review the various options on those sites above, and maybe the manufacturer's pages, you'll get a good idea of the general direction.
Many people brand new just go with what's on there, if you start noticing fade, you know you'll need an upgrade next time out. Stock pads are cheap, though.

one quick ?...are brake speed bleeder valves a good choice?
I have them all around! I also have the Motive bleeder setup (http://www.motiveproducts.com/), tried it with the initial plastic connector it came with, hosed down my engine compartment with fluid. Have the replacement metal adapter but haven't used it yet as the speedbleeders seem to be all you need. (http://www.soloperformance.com/ has them, so do a lot of other places)
already have the bleederss from solo performance in the order cart, just gotta hit buy
so is the brembo lcf600 fluid still the prime choice? someone said they boiled it so i was thinkin about getting the motul 660...how many bottles does a brake fluid change take? 3?

I am still running ATE fluid, not had boiling problems, its cheap, there is blue or gold versions to observe for when you swap to new fluid, and fairly widely available.
I do hear the Motul is good, though not heard much about the Brembo. The real upgrade is to the way pricey Castrol stuff.
I would say first time out, just get the ATE 200 stuff, the gold version.
I forget the amount needed, but probably 4 cans is fine, and at the cheap price of that stuff you have extra to bleed with later.

do you use painters tape or anything to protect the car from rocks/etc at the track? I was about to just buy a roll of that road wrap, seems to be pretty popular.

is there anything cheaper out there?

I never did the painters tape, but others have.
One of the guys in our group found different colors of masking tape that worked great, and almost color matched the Grabber orange and black of his Saleen PJ edition.
Lots of work to do it so it looks okay.
The road wrap isn't a bad idea, though I've never used it personally. Clear bra would be better.
Regardless, though, you pick up tire debris streaks, small chips, etc whenever on track.
