I had parked my Stang over the winter period and to my surprise battery drained out. It was able to juice up and able to drive for good 45 mins however it died when I tried to start it again.


Long story short I learned my lesson today to make sure either disconnect the battery OR hook it up to Battery Tender.


Now, I am out 180$ for the new battery at the dealership while it is been serviced for the oil change.


On that boomshell, I am going to enjoy rest of my day enjoying with that top down in my convertible.

Hah. I just had the same issue. Dead battery in front of an auto parks store. So I bought a new one (optima) and a tender.

 

Why would you buy a battery at the dealer? It probably would have been like 100 bucks in Costco.

 

I remove my battery and keep it on a maintainer in my basement. My garage is not heated and so it stays at a better temp. I also would not trust having the battery in the car on a tender. Had a friend whose maintainer failed. It overheated the battery until it exploded under the hood. Ruined everything.

 

no warranty? Why not?

Thanks I will look into that. Going forward that is what I am going to do remove my battery and keep it somewhere safe and have a battery tender as a back up.

 

I agree but I had a appt. at the dealership for oil change and it wont start up after the initial jump start and 45 mins drive. So to avoid all the headache I decided to have the dealership make some money

Could be worst, good thing it's just the battery.

 

I've been running my battery minder plus for over 8 years and it's never failed with the battery still connected.. When the battery becomes fully charged, it always shuts itself off automatically..

 

Yes they are supposed too... And mind you this was probably 12 years ago. I am sure the technology is significantly better. But I would rather be safe than sorry.

 

Don't get me wrong.. As I check everyday just to be on the safe side, but I'm just saying that after 8 years, my battery minder plus still works just as flawlessly as it did when brand new.. So I can just imagine how efficient the new models are with the newer technology

 

It was worth the extra few bucks to be checked out by Ford! Peace of mind.

 

Could've told you that from day 1. Battery tender/trickle chargers are your best friend over the winter months. My battery is OEM, 5 years old - as strong as ever. When it does need replacement, Optima will take its place.

I learned the same lesson recently as well. My Fiance and I have a 3rd car and no one to drive it. I just keep it in case I ever wake up to a flat tire in the morning or something.

But 99% of the time it just sits parked by the curb. I try to drive it around on the weekends, but I guess it sat for too long this time. That thing was dead...DEAD. I guess I'll get a new battery and drive it to work some days or disconnect it.

 

Yup, you'll definitely need a battery charger if you're storing your Mustang in cold weather.

 

I don't disagree with this...but my Mustang has sat for five consecutive winters with no tender...still tests out to be perfect.
Sometimes, you get lucky.
