Base GT Love?

I see a lot of you are ordering the premium package and I'm pretty dead set on getting leather but not sure if cloth would be a better idea. Today I was reminded why I hate leather so much...

I have a black car right now with leather and it was 100+ degrees out. Even with air cooled seats there still hot as ****!

I was thinking of changing my order to a Base GT instead, I wonder if I should just live with it and take the premium. Yes sync is awesome, and the leather looks nice and the mycolor as well. Is it worth the extra $4k? My a$$ says no but I say it is. I'll have to think about this one.

I ordered the 300A base GT. I couldn't see spending at least $3,000 more on leather seats, stupid lighting, 2 extra gauges, and whatever else. Only thing I missed out on was a leather wheel, but I already have a Bullitt leather wrapped wheel ready to replace the plastic one. I wanted to order the HIDs but couldn't on the base car. I will add those later I guess. You're making the payments, so order what you want.

I live in South Florida and it hasn't been too bad with the leather seats, I just park under shade or put my sun visor up and I am okay. The 15% tint helps as well.

The only option I ordered was automatic. Wife did not want leather interior and I did not want cloth top. Changing the dark horse in the grill and the center caps on the wheels also rear valance between taillights.

Depends a lot on the color of your leather. My wife's car has ivory leather, and they have never gotten ungodly hot when sitting in the sun with the windows closed. Her seats are heated and cooled, and we rarely ever need to use the cool feature. With black leather it is different. If you are getting stone leather I'd think you would be OK. I'm getting brick red in my '11 GT vert, and I'm thinking it will get pretty hot. My current vert has black leather and it is unbearable after being left in the sun, especially with the top down. I carry a white fitted sheet which I leave over the front seats when leaving it somewhere with the top down.

I'm not a fan of the base interior at all. The premium goodies are part of the reason I bought the car!

Get the premium package, you'll end up regretting it later if you don't.

get what you want. go drive both. even if its a v6 base you will get the idea.

i can live without sync and leather seats.

for me it was a choice of money. i set myself a limit and it was base gt vert or premium gt coupe. and for the same money(about) i rather have a vert over the added features of a premium car.

You could get a Premium and trade someone with Base car seats...

Eh it was pretty warm today. The past couple days, and it's only early June. Earlier this week it rained. The weather is so bipolar!

I wont regret getting the base for the following reasons:

Don't need power seats as I am the only one driving it.
Have leather in my current 3 cars and I am sick of it. Hot in the summer and cold in the winter. New Mustang has the nicest cloth seats I have ever seen in black.
Don't need sync with Droid.
Have portable xm that needs to move between vehicles so I don't need internal music storage, cd changer or built in sirius.
Bright dash trim is said to be blinding when sun hits it just right.
Don't need volt gauge as escort radar detector displays voltage.

I didn't buy a Mustang GT for the "goodies". I don't consider my C4 vette anything but a driver's car and the GT will replace it.

1989 5.0 LX
Options: 3.08, AC, and Premium Sound

2007 GT Deluxe
Options: 3.55

2011 GT Base
Options: 3.55

Some of us just dont really care for alll the fluff. Thats all right. Thats the reason they have all the options.
One for me and one for you. I get my $28,000 car and you get your $38,000 car.

I do wish they had offered the 5.0 Powertrain in the V6 Body instead of the GT Base though.
While Im dreaming I will take mine with a 5.0 Badge Delete.

Both of my Mustangs (and our Subaru) have leather seats, and I dislike them in all our cars 90+% of the time. I much prefer cloth seats, always have. My Bullitt and '08 Mustang don't have any of the new toys and gadgets that the premium package 2011 Mustangs have, and while they might be cool to play with now and then, I'm glad I have the simpler controls and interiors that I do (if only the seats were cloth). The plastic steering wheel is my only real gripe with the 2011 base GT, but that is easy to change (like I did with my '08), so if/when I get a 2011+ GT, it will be a base GT with Brembo package, standard gears, and spoiler delete. No trunk wart, no leather seats, no high sticker price, just good old-fashioned Mustang horsepower and simplicity.

Can you purchase a 2011 premium steering wheel from ford parts dept? If so can you use the air bag from the old wheel or is it extra? Looking at pics of the base v6 it's really not that bad.

Isn't the real reason we buy these cars is for the engine? The sounds of the 5.0 > Shaker 500

The perfect tribute to Steve without being an outright copy. I like it!

You can actually get the 18R wheel (which deletes Sync) thats a Fleet Option on the Base from them.

Also the previous GT500 / Bullitt wheels (GT500 has red thread) look a lot like like your base wheel wrapped in leather. All you have to do is pop out the air bag module and buttons and swap them (buttons light-up different color). People that have done it claim it takes 15-20 minutes. No steering wheel puller required.

I may install the Bullitt Wheel on mine (although I kept saying I was going to do it to my 2007 and never did).

i have leather seats in my 2003 and i personally dont like them. after time i have seen the leather seats look all cracked and faded and just downright terrible no matter how much you put the leather conditioner on them. and because its just me, the passenger side and back look brand new and then you have the crusty crab seat for the driver, just doesnt look good. all cloth seats i have had in the other cars have heald up well and still look like the other seats in the car after years pass by. also, i dont need nav, sync, mycolor, etc. too much electronics to break and short circuit then you wont be able to drive your car anyway. what ever happened to basic?? the car is to drive, not to do everything but bathe in it. give me a car that can handle like a race car with massive HP and then i will be interested. i have none of the extras on the 2 mustangs i have now and i still enjoy the cars. i dont miss the "extras" that i supposedly should have....
heck, before long we wont need massive HP cars cause they will be driving themselves and we will just be passengers....dont we love technology????
