base GT
The thing is, I don't want to pay $3,000 extra for the premium package, which as far as I can tell amounts to leather and a better stereo. But good stereo sound is important to me, so if the base one really sucks, that might cause me to consider the premium.
You get SYNC with the premium package and that is a pretty big extra, lots of content included in that.
The base GT's stereo is pretty decent for stock. If you listen to music a lot, it might be worthwhile to buy better speakers. I plan to upgrade them in the future but only after I get a lot of other worthwhile mods done (ie. exhaust, tune, CAI, etc.).
I ordered a base GT. I recently heard a 2010 base stereo and it was decent. I know I will upgrade speakers and add a sub. I noticed that the window stickers on the base say that the stereo is satellite radio capable but I know there is no antenna.
Yes the Nav gets the S500.
How hard would it be to add ambient lighting and my color to a base gt. These r the only options I really want out of the premium.
Don't care for leather, going to get a shift **** from grabberpony, aftermarket if I want a stereo, I don't have sync in my current car so it's not like im missing that, I will swap out the steering wheel although it looks like Ford finally updated the base wheel hopefully, and I can always order the aluminum pedals, speaker rings and dash patern.
Oh and I don't care for the sat. radio. On the plus side no trunk wart.

Nothing against you guys that want your specific options, to each his own I say. But I'm driving around in a 2010 V6 base model and the interior is worlds better than the 2006 GT I had. I personally couldn't care less about my color or ambient lighting. The base interior is quite nice, easily on par with anything that Toyota and Honda are putting in their cars in my opinion. In fact a good friend of mine recently purchased a brand new C300 Sedan by Mercedes and honestly I didn't think the interior was all that great even compared to my humble V6 Mustang. But again, that's just me.

danimal15, they made a lot of improvments on the 2010 and the suspension was one of them. The base V6 gets essentially the GT suspension that was on the 05 to 09 cars so it drives and handles really well. The 2011 V6 that I test drove was just as well handled.
The Shaker 500 in my 06 GT is the biggest pile of crap stereo I've ever had in a car. My biggest regret is getting the premium. I would have preferred the lesser stereo which I could swap out without worrying about how much I paid for it, and I would have preferred cloth since I've swapped my seats anyway.
