Isn't that the autolight sensor?

I'm going to have to test this out, my sales guy didn't think the active anti-theft included motion detectors... I'll arm it tomorrow morning with the windows down and wait 20 seconds and stick my arm in :P

See page 68 in the user manual to see the details.

It is the auto headlights sensor.

Security package has the motion sensors. Arm it and stick your hand through the opened window and it will go off in a few seconds. Shaking the car, lifting it, unlocking it, mine went off when a diesel drove by it today.

You're correct. A good thief (not some half high junkie trying to steal some stuff to sell for their next fix) can get into any car they choose. All we can do is make it a bit tougher for them, in hopes they move on to an easier target.

If it wasn't for the fact that it's cruelty to animals, I'd keep a half starved bit bull in my Mustang whenever it was parked in a public area as my security system.

That doesn't make sense though. Why would someone pay $200,000 for a BMW from a thief instead of just buying the car themselves for it's actual price?

Personally I opted for the security package for the rear sensor system (have it on all my cars). I also know from experience when an aftermarket security system goes bad (gets old) it screws bad with the car. We have one on the 98' diesel and it sucks the life outta the battery even though we no longer arm it.

Completely random, Magdalene, but from one Mustang girl to another (that is also on her first Mustang) I think it's awesome that you also ride. My girlfriend also rides (has two BMW bikes) and for her and it's also her first Mustang -- or american car in general.

Customs tax in other countries are over 50%, if I were to buy my mustang in costa rica ( Where my family is from ) there is a 60% tax on the price, so 26k + 14k = 40k for a v6 excluding tag, title, shipping.

Sorry! Maybe my sentence structure was not written correctly. What is happening is, to by a car in some of these European and third world countries you could pay up to 3 times the MSRP. A $70 or $120 thousand Bimmer or Mercedes could cost someone up to $150,000 to $200,000.

A stolen car sent overseas would cost maybe $40 or $50 thousand or if they even paid MSRP that is a bargain for them. It's all about the many taxes and tariffs and who knows what else these backward countries will rob them of just to have a Luxury car over there.

It was a very eye opening (SCARY) news report that is very sad that the thieves and organized crime will forever and always have the upper hand on all of us! It is a shame we will always live in fear for our possessions, family etc. That's Life!

I now keep a Brake Pedal lock on my GT when parked overnight or my car will be left alone for many hours (Just one extra deterent).
PS - A friend of my had his car stolen some years back with Lo-Jack and when he got it back was sorry he got the Lo-Jack, because the car was ransacked and abused where he would have rather just got an insurance pay off for a new car.
Sometimes when I thought I parked my car in a certain spot and my heart is in my mouth when it's not there only to be in another spot where I forgot I parked it.
Have a nice day, all!

Hopefully not spreading bad info, but on my Dodge that sensor is also for the automatic climate - the car knows it's bright and sunny out, and anticipates by cranking up the A/C a bit extra to get ahead. It works.

Get the security package for sure! The extra security is one extra deterent or should I say 6. The backup sensors that comes with the package are great too. If it saves you just once from backing into a wall, pole, high curb or heaven for bid a person of any darn thing that you never seen behind you it pays for itself. Not to mention the security system is pretty darn good. I was playing with it the other day so I know in my mind it actually works and it sure does. Any door hood, trunk, or inclination of the vehicle will set off the horn and all the turn signal lights.
I left the window slightly open when I set the alarm and it went off when I just stuck my hand part way in the window as to open the latch. Very comforting to have the extra protection. You only have to hit the close doors button once without the horn chirp to arm the vehicle and shut all the doors, which is nice in case it's late at night and you don't want to hear the horn. If you want to assure yourself though, you hit the button twice and you will get a very slight horn chirp arming the vehicle. Nice!! My favorite is when you forget where you parked. Transmitter works from a nice distance away to alert you to you car. My other car I have to be within maybe 50 ft as compared to maybe a football field or more distance. Enjoy what ever you do, and good luck!!!

Haha, hilarious. That's so not true. Did you even think about that or is your knowledge just based on TV shows? Maybe that's news to you but BMW as well as Mercedes are both European car manufacturer. And yes they are less expensive then here...

BTW setting Europe equal with a third world country might be not a good comparison, especially because for example Germany is a lot more advanced in a lot of things than the US...

I got the security package also. Love it its worth the extra because it kills the starter too. You put your hands on any part of the car or try to stick your hand with windows down it will warn off..

That's for the interior dash lights to come on. It's a sensor, cover it with your hand, The dash lights will come on.

Mine doesn't go off if you touch the car or try and open the door. Hell a grocery cart slammed into my car and the alarm did not go off.

I'd like to increase the sensitivity.

On a 2006 Charger you mean, which is what you're quoting me on? If so, then, no that's incorrect.

On a mustang, then yeah - mine come on when I pull into the garage or under a large overpass, particularly when it's not a very bright sunny day.

I am considering having the factory active alarm system installed by my dealer before I pick up my 2013 Mustang. Does anyone have problems with the infrared sensor going off accidentally when a big truck passes by the car or when kids play around it? I would think a factory system would be a bit more on the reliable side, which is why I don't want to go aftermarket. I hear the Viper systems do not have a tilt sensor or proximity sensor unless you add it as an option. And who needs a starter kill switch when the key immobilizer does that?

Is there any way to totally disarm the factory active system indefinitely if one chooses to do so?

The clear gray bump on the dash is the sensor for lighting. It looks outside for your auto headlights and inside for the gauge lights.

I got the system for one main reason. It is next to impossible to find an alarm place that won't destroy your stuff and either hide it/ghetto rig it or deny doing it.

These guys have to run wires and pull carpets and panels for $8/hr. Do you think they care about your car? Heck no. If any emotion is felt it's jealousy.

Sure aftermarket has some bad a stuff these days. But as said a thief will get in no matter what. It's all about delaying them. Factory installed (not dealer installed) with level sensors and motion sensors not only is a perfect balance of delay and quality. But it's also worth about $500 for an equal aftermarket system.
