Anyone else mad they changed the model so soon?
I'm only upset they diluted the look of the GT500. It's kind of like the guys who had 05-09's that got the GT500 body kit and put different badges in the grille. I think the car that got hurt the most was the Boss. I like this stripe treatment better but would liked to have seen it on the 2010-12 body style.

I'll do you one better than the Chevy trucks: Ever taken a look at the timeline of the Porsche 911? Another car that has never been out of production, and you think the MUSTANG hasn't changed?! lol...there are more changes in the Mustang from '05 to '12 than the 911's body has seen in its entire lifetime. Something tells me that driving an original 911 isn't really going to compare to driving a brand new 911, just like driving an '05 Mustang GT isn't going to be much like driving a '13 Mustang GT. I.e., they're different cars.
Thanks for the Camry history lesson.
Also did you know that the last 2 gens of that Camry are ALSO on the SAME basic platform. And the '05 example you posted was on a platform that stretched out on the 2 models before that one?
AND please don't tell me your wife drives an RX300/330/350. Not like they killed the Camry wagon to create a faked-luxo raised version on - yes, the SAME platform as the Camry. Don't forget the overpriced 4x4 w/ corolla interior - the Highlander too! And your mom + dad w/ that new ES 300/330/350... the list goes on.
Yes, the same basic platform - only with fenders/lights/interior panels/engine changes throughout each model's respective runs.
Nobody changes 'entire' platforms that fast anymore - this isn't 1965 GM w/ 'infinite' iron core anymore. ACTUALLY keeping with the same, however well-designed basic platform (like the LS/Jag based S197) and slowly improving upon it until the last generation is the absolute best example of that tooling was part of the 'Toyota' way.
Seems to me the Mustang is keeping up to date with its consumer base by keeping sales trickling in steadily. At lease enough to keep development going.
Seems to me YOU just have some anti-domestic bias. What's next? Let me guess - 'The Volt is a failure and should be banned because its unsafe'.
Posting that Japanese toaster junk here - what is this, a wedding registry thread?

all model years go thru some change...just look at the corvette over the last 20 years....talk about boring....
some have told me that my current mustangs are not really "mustangs" like the old one....well what they dont know is that the old "mustang" was built off the falcon/fairlane chassis and drive train to start with....and how many parts were interchangable with the other models of that year? several
i think that ford has done a great job of capturing what the mustang stands for....
do you think someone buys a corvette for how much different it looks compared to the other model years? no, because of the history it intails that is why they buy the corvette.
same thing with mustang....will we ever see an exact replica of a 68 or 69 fastback? no, never will, but the current mustang captures some of the iconic symbols that everyone recognizes....aka, the mustang tri bar pony in the center of the bosses and to the side of the GT/CS. you knew it was a mustang when you saw that on the front of the car...the lines, how they flow, the stance (aggressive yet subtle to the eye) you know what your driving and you know what others are driving...
if you want cookie-cutter styling, buy a toyota or a GM (just look at thier lineup..boring) if you dont like the model that is out now then wait to see what is next on the line...if you dont like that, then buy a used car that you do like.
we buy mustangs because of what they stand for, not how many different looks we can get in one year. the generation today has lost the concept of passion and expression in cars....just look back to the 50's and 60's they were stylin. now we just have a box with wheels on some of them. dont knock it, it might one day be gone and you will be missing it. count your blessings.

To the op, punctuations my friend, learn to use them.
The engine and styling is fundamentally different between an '05 and a '12. About the only thing that is identical is the frame, and it wouldn't surprise me if that was different in some ways as well. The '05 and the '12 are similar only in that they're Mustangs. Aside from that they're almost completely different.
Just because 90% of the people looking at the two of them can't tell them apart doesn't make them identical vehicles. That's ridiculous. By that line of thinking, you're going to need to get others' opinions on what they think of your car before you buy one. Good luck with that.

Who cares if 2012 may look kinda similar to 90% of the people- a stat just made up of course- to the 2005, but heck, the 2013 has even more changes, specially those LED lights really makes it look like a modern car, not like the oldie 05.
The S197 was supposed to look like a throwback to the oldie, dumas. What do you think started the retro craze for pony cars??
It sure wasn't the SN95 with the darth vader underbite. And if the 05 S197 had not proven the experiment, there would be no Chally, no Camaro, and hence no 5.0 (with that pitiful draggin asz diaper design from 10-12).
Oh but better get me some led's...
