...seriously? It's a drain plug. If it gets that much "wear and tear," buy a new one.

 

Had a quick drain on my plane it was great. Very slick and safe - you don't want to loose oil hurtling through the sky over mountains at night.

I just have no time to now to mess with oil changes and then chasing around to get rid of the used oil. Just not worth my time at all. Have a couple jugs of used oil already that need disposal.

Take it to the shop and get it done along with routine mtce checks.

 

I've thought about it many times, on my GT as well as other cars. But, its so inexpensive (and convenient) to have it done at the dealer that I've never ended up doing it myself.

 

Yes! Fumoto, that's what it was lol.

I found some pics I had of my first oil change. The Fumoto valve does sit a little low, but it's only a little lower than the support bar behind it (seen in the pic). I placed a vacuum cap to protect and cover the valve.

Meh. Equally it's a drain plug hole - and if THAT gets damaged (an equal chance) you'll be replacing your entire oil pan. In spite of your snide remark, it does happen - I've seen it occur at quick oil change shops, as well as used cars where obviously someone over-tightened it a lot.

Also, the wear and tear was secondary point - the primary one is convenience in draining the oil - it's quicker, easier and far less mess. So rather than bash around others on the forum, just take it or leave it. In the meantime, consider lightening up a bit.

 

True, the oil pan is made of softer material than the drain plug. so if overtightened the threads on the pan will go first.

I did that mistake on another car with the auto-transmission drain plug... wasn't fun lol.

 

I use Raceramps to get the front end up, swing the access panel back, loosen up the oil filter enough for hand removal, put the oil drain pan underneath, then put a "tube" of cardboard underneath the filter to channel the oil into the pan while it's removed. Very little mess. Have done this 3 times and did my 20000 change yesterday. Never thought of using a zip baggie, I'll have to try that.
