Another #8 Failure on 2011 5.0
Another #8 Failure on 2011 5.0
A member of my local mustang club posted on our clubs Facebook page about his #8 cylinder just failed and the piston is cracked! I have meet this member once or maybe twice at our clubs monthly gatherings and can't say how he drives his pony. I have no idea if he runs his pony hard or tracks it weekly or monthly.
This club member owns a 2011 5.0 and it is tuned by a somewhat local tuning company according to him and his words after I asked him via Facebook. Its NOT a Bama, Steeda, MPT, Lund, VMP, etc tune.
Apparently the local tuning company told this guy, out of 100 5.0's they tuned this was the first one to have a #8 failure. From posts made by this club member, it didn't seem like that local tuning company was going to take any responsibility for the failure (not saying they should or shouldn't) and looks like dude is left to pay for a new # 8 piston.
Just goes to show how important ones choice is in a tuning company.

*****.
Thanks for passing this along...Not encouraging that this is still happening.
So the guy is just going to replace the piston? He may want to consider the cost of the pull/hone/new piston/install compared to a crate engine...or better yet, an Aluminator.

Its the tune. They tuner started with a base SCT file, which in my opinion is dangerous.

Why anyone would add a tune to their car is beyond me, at least not until after they are out of warranty. Jeez at some point it does become over-compensating....how 420 ponies can't be enough is beyond me....just realize there will always be someone whose car is faster than yours....

When these cars came with 225 hp from the factory, we were thrilled with 300 after mods. When they came with 300, we were thrilled when they made 350. Now they make 420 right out of the box which truthfully is borderline unusable on the street, and we still want more?

Mine came with the Ford Procal tune. I don't know or really care if it adds power but I can tell you after driving my friends stock 14, it drives nicer. Makes a very noticeable difference.

Funny you should post this here.. Justin is a personal friend of mine and he does track the car and It's a high 11's car 118-120 mph. . And I will be building his new motor for him.
