Hey I wanted to get this info out about an issue I had with my 2010 Mustang GT over the last couple of weeks.

Short version is that according the Ford dealer I service my car at they have had a number of Mustangs with ABS/Advancetrac failures due to people adjusting the factory mid-pipes to accomodate axle-back exhuast mods. Mine was the latest victim after installing pype-bomb muffler deletes from Americanmuscle.com. The rear wheel sensor lines are close to the exhuast and the mechanic at my dealership has had to repair and re-route the wiring on other Mustangs, all with exhaust mods.

Yes it's a vert and I bolted it all in myself. That lift is an auto hobby shop on the base.

I've owned 30+ cars and I've never fried any wiring by barely moving stock pipes around. And just the one dealer I go to has seen this issue on MULTIPLE 2010-2011s. Perhaps with your install the pipes went the other way then towards the wire. Just wanted this info out there so people can watch those wires!!!!

 

I'm sorry to say but I don't believe them. Not only doesn't it make sense, but there isn't that much difference in the location no matter what exhaust u use. Not to mention I have never heard of this before. I really hope you didn't have to pay for it cause I would of had a problem with that.

 

Sounds like your dealer sucks. This is totally weird, there are tons of people out there running aftermarket exhaust (from axel-backs to full systems) and this is the first thread/post I've seen on the topic.

 

I'm calling this dealer your using FULL OF BS!

Hmm - The owner's manual (page 205) warns against all sorts of things* adversely affecting the AdvanceTrac, but curiously leaves the exhaust system off the list... seems they'd include it if it were an issue...

*roof racks, suspension, steering, tire, wheel/tire size...?

 

They don't mention cutting the wires either.

Am I missing something? Is he just saying his wires got burned from being too close to the exhaust? I haven't been under mine to see where those wires run.

 

I have had 6 different exhaust setups on my car, the pipes are on an off once a month and I have NEVER had an issue. We have not experienced on any of our customer cars that we put exhaust on...... just saying

 

interesting. I put on some aftermarket axle-backs a month ago and had to loosen the h-pipe to move the over-the-axle pipes back a bit further so the new mufflers could go on. I did notice that this put the right-side over-the-axle pipe a bit closer to a wiring harness and a plastic vent tube. I remember not being crazy about how much closer that put the pipe and I checked it today and it looked fine.

I'm thinking just to be safe, I'm going to wrap some header wrap over that part of the pipe. that should take care of any chance of an issue in the future.

 

I put on Flowmaster American Thunder axle backs - I initially expected to have to loosen and move things around a bit like I did on my '05, but nope, they where dead on right out of the box.

 

Since I have a Kenne Bell I cant cant use "advancetrac" anyway.

 

haha yea... I'm considering a Hellion turbo after a while. I'm sure advance track will love when that hits full boost......
