87 VS 91 gas

Here is what i read elsewhere from FRPP about the octane being used in the 2011 GT.

One other thing, the 412hp is on 87 pump gas. FRPP is already stating there will be a kit out there with a 91 octane tune that can push hp close to 450hp. This is BMW M3 performance .

Hum, i wonder what kind of a kit they will be offering. I can just imagine filling up my 2011 with 94 octane at my local Petro-Canada.

If Ford we be able to get it close to 450 with their kit you have to become really excited at what the aftermarket will be able to do.

Keep telling self: soon I can order, soon I can order, soon I can order, soon I...

Hmmm, I've read that the advertised 412 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque is on 91 Octane. Running 87 Octane will result in -10 horsepower and -13 lb-ft of torque.

Right I read the same thing.
And like Bullitt's "Adaptive Spark Ignition", torque is reduced by 10 on 87. Bullitt info says nothing about HP diff.
Course the 5.0 has the TiVCT thrown in the mix too...

"Engine performance is further enhanced through the use of an innovative adaptive spark ignition system, new for the 2008 Mustang Bullitt.
The system can sense, within a few seconds, what type of fuel is being injected into the motor and adjusts the spark to provide maximum torque at any given speed – and as much as 10 pounds-feet more between 1,000 and 4,000 pm."

That remains to be seen or rather heard. Or maybe someone has some concrete evidence or info about this gas octane issue.

I believe I read somewhere on Ford's site that 91 is "reccommended" and thats probably what the 390 is based on. The car will probably run fine on 87, just might loose a little low end grunt.

I'm the one who posted that up on 6speedonline. What did you expect? If I had a dollar everytime I posted on a Mustang website my Porsche and have been told to get my "eurotrash" out of here I wouldn't be worrying making the note payment on my Speed Yellow beauty. BTW, there were quite a few of us on the "elitist" website that defended the Mustang and it was the track guys. They see Stangs on the track and follow Grand AM (Koni Challenge) and they know the deal.

Glad you were on the site...

As far as to the OP..it was the recent Car and Driver article that stated that the car will run on 87 octane but you will lose 10hp and 13lbs of torque. This is the only ariticle I saw this. I was under the impression from quite a few people that we would have 400+hp on 87 octane...I guess it was true. I mean you subtract 10hp from 412 and you got 402

Ratings are different in Europe.
95/98 do not equal what they would be here IIRC
Could be wrong on that, but I remember reading it a while ago

Correct..98 RON= 93 R+M/2 (AKI) octane here while 95 RON=90-91 R+M/2 (AKI)

Hmm, I wonder what HP you could get with 93 Octane? Probably not much, but every bit helps!

Yeah, we run 93 here.
91 is really hard to find and sometimes costs more.

I knew it was you Dave. I love all kinds of cars and have had the opportunity to drive a 911 way back in 1984 (I can't imagine how much better they are now). It just irks me when someone turns up their nose at the mere mention of the Mustang name and dismiss it as junk when they have no idea what the car is capable of.
If I could afford a Porsche I would have one too. I certainly appreciate you and the others on that site who were standing up for the Stang. I know it goes both ways with some neanderthals on some Mustang sites too.

Believe it or not I am a Mustang guy in my heart. I hit my mid 30's and something happened...I cared about the rest of the car..not just how fast it goes. Ford is finally building a car that I can enjoy to the full extent not just horsepower.

I can't even tell you the ribbing I got back in 01-07 when I owned E46 M3s..the guys on Roadfly just tore me up. Anyway I'm not a fanbois anymore, I still have my favorites but I won't dismiss the obvious when it comes to talking about cars.

Well Dave you had the gutts to at least say you were the one that posted on the other site. I was under the same impression about getting 412HP on 87 octane. But we can get 94 here, so i wonder how it will affect HP ratings in the end. Nice Porsche by the way !
