69 and 70 Style S-197s
Hello everyone. I saw this thread on the 05-09 S-197. I was wondering how many of you has done the same to your mustangs. My dad had a 69 coupe that he then traded it for a 70 fastback.
I'll start with my own, a Mach 1 tribute car, a 13 GT Premium. I know this is not everyone taste, but it reminds me of the car my dad use to have 30 years ago. Let me know what you think, and let's see your pictures. Thank you.
I am debating about painting the ground effects sating black like the 11-12 models. What do you think?

I kinda like it, I suggest taking the superman decal off the back window and get the 5.0 side decals in black but go with what you like, idea is great

We went through 3 Mustang 2s in our family. My sister went through 2 different 4-bangers & I had a 302 2V with C4 trans. That engine was really de-tuned. It didn't take too much to really wake that car up and make it a beast.

Since you are going for the Mach 1 look have you considered the rear window louver? I also think the side scoops would add to the look. Just about every Mach 1 around has the rear window louver. Love the Shaker Hood!

I was wondering the same thing. But i'm not sure if I want to spend $300. on louvers. Then again I spent over $600 for a shaker scoop that does little for performance. I do like the side scoops, but I want to get the ones that came on the GT/CS, we'll see.

Looks great! I would not paint the side rocker panels, if it were me. Have you thought about taking off the 5.0 emblems altogether? Maybe putting the "Powered by Ford" emblem there instead? Love the shaker scoop too!

funny you should mention the "powered by ford" emblem. I was wondering how that will look on the car. I am very proud of the 5.0 badge. Maybe I can plastidip the 5.0 and put the "powered by ford" badge below it. hopefully it will not look overdone or too busy.

Yeah, I like the 5.0 badge too, and I don't know how big or small that Ford badge really is. Maybe there is a photo of it on a 5.0 somewhere to give you an idea. You've done a nice job with your GT so far, just do what you feel is best, and keep us posted!

Jose ! I definitely like how you transformed your 13 GT into a Mach 1 tribute car, as I also like the 69-70 body style as well..
However IMHO, the S197 Mustang seems to have more in common with the 65-68 (2+2) fastback body style over the 69-70 sportsroof models..
For example, the S197 greenhouse has similar separate A+B pillars as the 65-68 fastback models along with the triangular shaped quarter windows where as the 69-70 models clearly do not.. Also all 69-70 models have the full sportsroof that slopes into the rear decklid, however on the other hand, the decklid on the S197's are all horizontal just as the 65-66 2+2 models were..
Although Ford did take some 69-70 design cues, mostly in the hood, front grille/headlight sections along with the rear tail lights.. The overall body style of the S197 has far more in common with the 65-68 fastback models, at least as far as I'm concerned anyhow

They were GREAT cars for their time. They filled a hole that allowed the Mustang to be the only pony car to have uninterrupted production since its inception.

Are you an XO, or just parked in the XO's spot?

Really? Yes, the Camaro went out of production for a few years but that was between 2003 and 2009 not during the time of the Mustang II. So the Mustang II did not fill a hole... the Camaro (and the Firebird) were alive and well during that period - and frankly the GM F-body was a better car from an enthusiast point of view considering the Mustang II was basically a Pinto with a body kit.
However on the other hand, I also understand where UOP Shadow is coming from as well.. As he is correct when it comes to the Mustang being the only pony car to have uninterrupted production since it's inception 50+years ago in which IMHO is what his post was actually referring to from the get go
