5.0L equals '78 King Cobra equals thanks Burt Reynolds...

My favorite badge in automotive history has returned and just think,it wouldn't have been possible without Burt Reynolds. Before '78,the 5.0L was just known as the 302,until Burt and his Trans Am with its 6.6L hoodscoop callouts took the movie world and car sales by storm in '77. In a shameless attempt to ride the coattails,we got the awful Trans Am rip-off,the '78 King Cobra,it just copied the TA right down to the screaming snake and the shaker hood scoop and its engine decals, instead of 6.6,we got 5.0 and a legend is born in shame. Yeah,i'm bored and i can't sleep.......

Sorry but I think the 5.0 european deliniation is dopey. Always hated it on my 82 gt.
I mucch prefer the cubic Inch mesurement.
I never reffered to my 82 as a Five Oh..or Five point Oh
It was always the 302 as in Three Oh Two

Thumbs up

I'm with you, Doug. I know the 5.0 badge means a lot to a lot of Mustang fans but, to a Brit like me, 302 cu is a much more in keeping with the Mustang's heritage

I dig the 5.0 . . . . as it is probably the only "bone" Fox fans will ever get thrown.

And if you don't like the darn things rip them off and replace them . . . . just not with snakes!!

Hurry...There's probably some 2010 GT's still on the lot with GT fender badges!

Ford is catering to the 80's-90's Mustang fan that bought the 5.0 used back in the day (i.e; Me)and are now at the age (35-40) that they can afford the new "5.0"...some may even still have their first 5.0 in the garage. The BOSS 302 will keep the "inches" guys happy in 2012.

Except for the years when "5.0" was on the side of the Foxes . . . . just as much heritage as the older ones.

I'm a fan of 5.0 foxes. It's 4cyl, 5.0, 351. That's just my opinion though

Sorry matey, heritage was probably the wrong word. But to me, 302 cu is more "exotic" than 5 litres......but that's only because every car sold in the UK is listed in litres.....usually less than 2 of them, too

If it's badging we are talking about I'd prefer the V8 badging myself
Don't the 94 have 302 written in the badging? I seem to remember it in a kind of script.
Everytime sone refers to a Fox as Five Oh or Five point Oh I can't help but hear that rediculous Vanilla Ice song in my head... Truely one of the low points. Lower I dare say than any King Cobra badging ever.

According to AutoBlog, they've taken care of that with some fancy rounding.

"The end result is an engine with 92.2mm bore and a 92.7mm stroke. For the mathematically challenged, that works out to 4,952 cubic centimeters and now properly rounds to 5.0-liters while still equaling 302.2 cubic inches."

I prefer to think of the new engine as displacing .14 bushels.
