5.0 vs LS3
forgive me if this is posted in the wrong forum..
My question is ...a 5.0 with 3.73 gonna feel as powerful as the LS3 in the camaro. I know the cars on paper are even match in performance numbers but will a 5.0 / 3.73 feel as torquey and give you that same push in the seat as the camaro? I am a camaro owner with boss 302 fever

The 5.0 puts more actual power to the ground than the camaro's drivetrain and the car is lighter so yes you will FEEL it's torque. even though the camaro has more torque down load it doesn't get as much of it to the ground as the mustang, multiple dyno's have shown this.
the mustang has something like 10-12% drivetrain loss, while the camaro has shown as much as 17% drivetrain loss, and let's just leave the L99 out of the equation lol

Roll on in the lower rpm band i think the ls3 is going to fell better than the 5.0 . Now your talking going over to a Boss 302 it has a red line of 7,500 rpm . I think when you get the boss motor up in it power band and start banging off gears at 7,500 rpm it going to be lights out for the ls3 .Than there the Red Key and that will change thing even more .

I drove both cars before making my selection and I actually found that the 5.0 with 373s pushed my butt into the seat more than the Camaro did. The Camaro has VERY tall gears and while it had a constant surge of power, it didn't feel quite as dramatic and thrilling as the 5.0.

Well i think we need to give props to GM motor for the way it makes low rpm torque . Now my self i think my car is a bit flat below 3,500 rpm . Now 4,000 rpm and up 5.0 become a new motor an get with the progam . I do think the motor in the Boss 302 is going to be just one of those every speical motor than come around once in a life time. I think the Z06 motor is one of those motor to . Now i'am going to **** off some people i think a V8 that needs a superchager or blower to make it power sucks !!! . The 5.4 in the shelby GT 500 was worth a **** it be making 500+ hp N/A that just my 2cent .

My two cents . . .
I have an LS3 and my impression is that it doesn't wake up until after 3,000 rpm but is very strong in the midrange.
I've driven a 5.0 w/3.73 and was impressed with how quickly it revved and the high rpm torque.
All and all I'd say the LS3 is stronger in the midrange and the 5.0 is stronger in the higher range.

No way you're going to get around a pushrod motor develops strong torque off the line whereas any OHC needs some rpm's to kick in.
Like watching the Pro Mod drags on Espn from indy... an extreme example... but the forced induction was way strong off the line compared to the turbo, but once the revs kicked in the turbo slung past and won at the finish. Repeatedly. PS: and the turbo set the track record in its class of 255 mph!! Bet that felt like a jet kicking in!
Same concept. As great as DOHC 4V w/fuel injection has improved lower end, it still takes some rpm's to get that breathing to kick in. But when it does, bye bye pushrod (& over weight pig butts)!

The Boss 302 motor is going to have new cams , a new intake manifold and ported cly. heads. Ford has rated it with less torque than 5.0 that comes in the GT 390 to 380. I think what we are going to see is the Boss 302 motor will end up spinding up into the 8,000 rpm range how far i dont know for sure. But the lower part of the power band i dont think will be as strong as the GT 5.0 because the cams and intake manifold . The upper part of the power band will be better than the GT 5.0 . Will just have to sit back let it all play out in it own good time . I think the camaro and the mustang are both great cars we need to hop in them take them for a rid enjoy life.

The 5.4 is virtually bulletproof. You can get that engine up to 800hp and still not worry that it will blow apart. Although they are SC'ing the 5.0 now, my understanding is the engine probably won't last long if you SC it, it's just not built to take it- or at least not built to last under SC boost.

2008 Ford Falcon FPV GT, 5.4L 4-valve DOHC, 422 hp and 406.5 lb·ft, 78HP Per Liter
2010 Chevy Camaro LS3, 6.2L 2-valve OHV, 426 hp and 420 lb·ft, 68.7HP Per Liter
I guess the LS3 in the Camaro isn't a "real" motor either....
