3.7L M/T ... new best: 30.89 MPG !!

Basically a continuation of this 3 pg. thread ...
https://themustangsource.com/f726/28-81-mpg-484219/
... but thought breaking 30 MPG deserved it's own thread.

Filled up today 407.4 miles / 13.187 gal = 30.89 MPG !!

At the time of fill up, computer was showing "46 mi to E" and "29.3 AVE MPG"
Total miles on car to date is 2420

It's all those darned flat roads in WI!

I'm still not even close to that but I am enjoying the engine. My trip this weekend should be pretty telling, however.. You have the 2.73 gears, right?

Can we have a contest for the worst MPG? I'm at 14.6 on my GT.

I can tell by the grin you are having a lot of fun . . . I was joking the other day about how much fun it would be to try to get down below 15 . . .

I mostly blame my slow shifting, tons of city driving, and my hour or so of practice starting and stopping in first gear.

Yeah, I've got the 2.73's ... just under 2k RPM's @ 75 MPH.

If it's any consolidation, I got only 21.02 MPG over 74.3 miles of driving around last weekend. Did a car cruise Friday night and was having a ball winding out 1st and ocasionally 2nd gear in what ended up being a "slow parade" at times.

Doesn't anyone have a 3.31 geared V6 that has been tracking their fuel economy yet???

OP, what do you think of the acceleration with the 2.73's ?

Plan on taking it to the dragstrip any time to see how it does?

Orange3.9Stang, you should go real easy on it just to see how good MPGs you can get. If you smooth sail it I bet you can get close to 40 mpg.

I'm smooth sailin' it as best I can but typically at up to 10 over the limit on all Wisconsin roads and Illinois streets and keeping up with the faster traffic on Illinois interstates (all 55 MPH but traffic typically moves at 70-80 MPH).

If I'd drive the speed limit for a whole week that would make a big difference too, but that's not gonna happen !!

Was talking to my sales gal last week about mileage and she said on the newer Fords it typically keeps getting better until 8k miles. As I'm less than a 3rd of the way there and it IS still improving each week we'll just have to wait and see where and when it levels off !!

Drove a 2002 4-dr Cavalier (115HP I4 AT / 2676 lb. curb wgt) for 3 months in 2008 and the best it ever got was 33.08 MPG (31.57 ave). If I can get this 305HP / 3500 lb. Mustang to beat this, that will be good enough for me !!

When you change oil, go to a pure synthetic and use ethanol free gas. Kwik Trip in TR has ethanol free premium. I see 1 mpg improvement in the Bullitt with ethanol free and another 1-2 mpg improvement with pure synthetics like Mobile 1. Driving back and forth to Point beach, I get around 22-23mpg, depending on how many tractors I have to pass on 42.
On a trip to Minneapolis last year, I pulled a best of 28.9 with the Bullitt

Not only are the roads in NE Wisconsin relatively flat...they have no traffic and even fewer lights!

Just a tad doggy off the line but only "IF" you don't think to rev it a bit before letting the clutch out is the best way I can explain it.

With the 2.73's it is geared EXACTLY the same as my '04 was (same RPM's @ same speed in 1st) and the '04 was decent off the line. However the '04 had a 0.2L bigger engine & was around 350 lbs. lighter, so I can now see where the '11 could use slightly shorter gearing.

The 3.31's take away the advantage of 6th gear (same RPM's @ same speed as my '04 in O.D.) and is why I did not get them.

I'd like to get it to the dragstrip (and on a dyno) eventually ... just have to find the time to do it.

I'll be switching to Mobil 1 at 10k miles and have been running Citgo Ethanol Free 91 Premium from Sauve's since the complimetary tankfull (assume E10 87) from Maritime Ford.

Will also look into an SCT flash tuner, maybe 6-12 months from now.

I'll be changing the oil early somewhere between 500 and 1000 miles, switching to full synthetic (mobil 1, used it in my 2004 V6, engine is still great to this day!), and learning how to shift properly. My gas mileage actually went up .3 today just by shifting more. More hilariously I ran it for five minutes at idle to test out the Vehicle Health Report feature and I saw the gas mileage drop by .1 during that time, haha. I have not yet had to refill the tank, but I will this weekend (down to 1/4 now), and when I do I will be putting 93 Ethanol-free in (dunno what the Dealer put in).

I made the switch from an 08 Focus to the 2011 mustang. I will let you know how the fuel economy compares.

strictly going by what the computer has been telling me, I'm only getting about 15MPG strictly city driving, and the best I saw after a 3hour highway drive was 26MPG

Filled up Thursday ... 373.3 miles / 12.174 gal = 30.99 MPG !!

At the time of fill up, computer was showing "29.1 AVE MPG" (2 tenths less than last week but end result was 1 tenth higher) ... total miles on car to date is 2853.

Hot & muggy week, had A/C or Def. on most of the time ... should have easily done 31+ otherwise.

Very good Doug. I have an automatic with 3.31 gears. Last week i got 25.2 m.p.g. on narrow hilly country Tennessee roads with my Dad as a passenger. He was showing me where he grew up and went to school when he was a little boy LOL!!! I just turned over 1,000 miles and will be going with Mobil 1 at around 3,500 miles.

Wanted to contribute my numbers from a recent trip down to hilton head sc drove 424 miles and used 14.5 gallons of fuel I fill up with stuff that supposedly contains 10% ethanol and of that 424 miles about 120 was normal commute mixed in with stop&go and inland driving so I think pure freeway I would have easily hit 30+mpg speeds varied from sitting still to cruising at 75-80 a/c on the whole time 2 people in car+luggage several spirited accelerations around slower vehicles and many hard first gear takeoffs from lights to let the locals*which there we're quite a few pointing at it know how it sounds first hand
