28.81 MPG !!

Did my 1st normal commute this week with cruise set @ 75 (65 thru Milwaukee) and driving in 6th as much as I could or RPM's around 12-1500 cruising on city streets but typically spirited accelleration thru the gears from every stop.

Trip consists of 1 round trip to & from home (Two Rivers,WI - Skokie,IL approx. 170 mi ... all but maybe 15 mi. is interstate, and all but 5 miles is 55+), then 2 trips to & from my parents house which is 15 mi from work and 1/2 interstate.

Just filled up at the local station with the computer saying 19 mi to E ... with a little over 1k miles total on odo this 404.2 mile trip took 14.032 gals or 28.81 MPG !! She's been on a straight diet of Citgo Ethanol Free 91 Premium since my dealership's courtesy fill of 87 E10 so I don't know if this is helping, but it can't hurt.

Computer ave. fuel economy said 26.9 MPG when I left work last night and had gotten up to 27.7 MPG when I finally got off the interstate 2.25 hrs later. On the way down to work on Monday, the ave got up to 29.1 MPG.

92.7 miles of City/County road driving last weekend netted me only 21.02 MPG ... compared to the 1st fill up after the prior 2 weekends was 209.6 miles @ 21.97 MPG.

My goal of doing my 400+ mile commute on ONE tank of gas has been achieved. And if the MPG's continue to improve as the engine breaks in further, all the better.

FYI ... I do have the std. 2.73 gears so she purrs under 2k RPM's @ 75 MPH (theoretically s/b 1823 RPM @ 75, but tach reads closer to 2k).

All this out of a 3500 lb vehicle with 235mm wide performance tires that easily barks these tires going into 3rd gear ... both the gear head AND miser in me are just lovin' this new daily driver !!

Doug

That's terrific. It will only get better as the engine breaks in more fully.

That is great news! I been holding off on buying a new daily driver for a couple years now. I was planning on buying a V6 Accord coupe but now I'm thinking a 2011 V6 Mustang will be my next ride in the next 6-12 months. So glad to see Ford make a powerful yet efficient V6 Mustang!

WOW!!! Doug. Thats great!!! My last car only got 28 m.p.g. all highway around 65 to 70 m.p.h., with a 158 h.p. 4 cylinder LOL!!! My Mustang got a little over 20 m.p.g. all city with several floorings to loosen up the engine some and a lot of idling showing people my reverse camera, exhaust sound, etc. I still only have around 450 miles on my Mustang.

That sounds good! Maybe it would be better if you had a CAI as well?

Chirps the tires going into third? Are you dumping the clutch?

As said, can get a chirp out of 3rd with not much effort ... running it hard but not that hard.

About the same effort as it took to get a bark out of 2nd in my '04 or '98 ... never got 3rd to bark or chirp in any V6 equipped Mustang before.

Update ... just refueled this afternoon for this weeks commute ...

397.1 MI / 13.648 GAL = 29.10 MPG

More city driving on this tank than the 28.80 MPG tank, so yes it is definitely still improving with 1500 miles on the odo !!

Does the MPG on the Info Center on V6 read low as well? On my GT and others Ive talked to they read around 7% low.
20.0 MPG indicated will be 21.5 MPG actual when I fuel.

I think all these cars (5.0 or 3.7) are going to do pretty well in the real world. My 5.0 has gotten 20-24 mpg through the first 5 tanks of E10. My driving is around 75-80% City. I may try G100 to see how much difference it makes.

Mine reads low. It said 18.2 m.p.g. when i checked the manual way i really got 20.7 m.p.g. That was all city and with several floorings and a lot of idling, showing friends and family my Nav. system etc.

Hey- You won't believe this!!!

Just got back to Fl. picking up my 5.0 auto from Jeff in Pa. I didn't think it would be fair to do a mileage check, as I did a lot of (lets say uneconomical) driving on the way home.
Also, a LOT of mountain driving.
So my last stretch involved mountains - then driving to and through Atlanta (I-75) averaging 80 (+&-) and guess what.

26 MPG !!! I'm still not believing it. (used premium - car has 1500 mi. s on it now)

YES, my message center reads lower than actual MPG just prior to re-fueling ... it was saying 27.4 when I filled up yesterday, and 29.1 was actual, so 6.2% off.

Reset the AVE MPG display this morning after I got on the interstate and after 2.25 hrs it got cozy at 29.6-29.7 MPG with cruise at 75 MPH and was still reading 29.6 as I parked at work.

I went from 25.2 on my first tank to 26.6 on my second tank*which isn't really fair to compare because on my second tank I was breaking in my new exhaust extensively I'm hoping to average around 27/28 for my normal commute in my 2011 where I was getting 21/22 with the 4.0 2010 v6
awesome mileage on that gt to to be honest i expect that though big powerfull motor fairly light car once up to speed&cruising that combo with good aero&gearing should yield good mpg nontheless 25+mpg out of a 400+hp car is impressive!

I'm getting about 17.3, with lots of city driving. Also, a trip to the dragstrip, and some 0-60 runs. It was at 17.4 yesterday when I was cruising around. My mother called me on my cell phone, so I pulled into a McDonald's parking lot so I could safely talk to her. I kept the engine running because it was hot and the a/c felt good. As I was talking, I noticed the mpg dropped rom 17.4 to 17.3.
