2015 GT-Weight gain and Lowered??
I would like to find out how much the weight gain was for the 2015 GT over the 2014 GT?
I was also wondering if the 2015 GT was lowered, from the factory, over the 2014 GT? If so, how much.
Is there anything in the works for Ford to reduce the weight of the GT for 2017?
Any accurate information is appreciated.

2015 is ~86 lbs heavier.
Yes, the stance is lower out of the box.
Don't expect any significant weight reduction without a major re-design. On the bright side you can replace exhaust, wheels, and the back seat and drop > 100lbs that way.
EDIT: I'm wrong about that. 86lbs was for the difference between a 2015 GG PP and 2015 Camaro 1 LE. You guys are right, it's almost 200lbs

These numbers move around a bit but I have read various stat sheets that show a ~200lb gain, model for model with the 4cyl S550 Ecoboost cars being slightly lighter than an S197 GT at around 3,500lbs.

I have a '14 base GT manual. The factory shipping weight is listed at 3,520 lbs. Actual weight with approximately 1/2 tank of gas, spare tire & jack is 3,580 lbs. This weight was determined on a local grain scale that is inspected and certified accurate to the nearest 20 lbs. This weight was measured with the original 235x50x18 tires and 18x8 wheels. Presently it has 255x40x19 tires and 19x9 Boss 302 wheels so I would guess that the car is now just at or slightly over 3,600 lbs. I haven't had an opportunity to actually weigh a '15 or '16 GT so all I can go by are the weights shown in magazine road tests. These are usually close to 3,800 lbs.

This all checks out.

Curb weight is measured with all fluids to include full tank of gas. I have a 2014 Roush stage 3 and with a full tank no items in the car it topped the scale at 3740lbs. Extra weight is the supercharger and all the components. Base 2014 manual suppose to have a weight range of about 3620.

S550 Mustang GT: 3,705 lbs curb weight (manual) 3,729 lbs curb weight (automatic)
The 11-14 GT is 3622 lb (manual)
So depending on the options on the car, the difference should be at least between 70-90 pounds.

Just a quick note regarding shipping weights. I have no direct knowledge of current practices, but in the past it was a common practice for auto manufacturers to fudge the shipping weights on the low side since almost all new cars are shipped by rail and railroads charge by the ton mile. Given the huge number of cars shipped a few pounds per car can make a real difference in shipping costs. Also at one time the NHRA used advertised shipping weights and horsepower to determine certain classes. This gave the racers a chance to take some weight out or rearrange it a bit without going under the official weight. Going back to actual measured weights for a moment my '14 GT manual that weighed in at 3,580 with a half tank of gas has 1,940 lbs of this over the front end giving a weight distribution of 54% front and 46% rear.

Here's a MT test showing the S550 GT/PP at 3,825...and getting its butt kicked by the new Camaro.

Here's the weight info from different sources:
3705 lbs Road and Track http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...coboost-v6-gt/
car and driver : 3704 lbs
http://blog.caranddriver.com/dont-wo...s-are-minimal/
Ford website itself: 3705 lbs
http://www.ford.com/cars/mustang/spe...ions/view-all/
Edmunds PP weight test: 3796 lbs
http://www.edmunds.com/ford/mustang/...the-money.html
motortrend 2015 GT with all options and performance package: 3816 lbs
http://www.motortrend.com/news/2015-...gt-first-test/
Looks like PP adds around 70+ pounds plus other options, I'm not surprised. The PP wheels are heavy:
OEM Base 18" GT Wheel w/ Tire: 54.5lbs
OEM PP Model 19" GT Wheel w/ Tire: F-60.6lbs / R-64.3lbs
The 15" rotors weight 33.5 pounds, as they are thicker and taller then gt500s and those weight 32.5 pounds each.
S197 brembo 14" rotors weight 24-25 pounds so I'm guessing S550 14" rotors are close to that number, stock S197 rotors are 20 pounds.
The PP is not so great from the looks of this, to counter the weight gain you would need to invest in good 2 piece rotors 1000-1500$ at least, and a set of light flow formed or forged wheels, then you will probably want nee tires with those so at least 2500-5000$. That's a lot of money to counter the added weight from a 3000$ package.

Thanks for putting that together! I see where you're getting that...but all except for the Edmunds review were numbers from before anyone had access to the car. Those numbers were sadly optimistic.
Edmunds...I don't know how they go a light one. Maybe the gas tanks were bone dry?

It's only off by 20 pounds compared to motortrend, I guess gass level or some other option on the car made it heavier then the other. To quote motortrend they had every option on the car, that extra technology will add some weight also.
"Pricewise, our 2015 Mustang GT Premium tester’s $46,380 sticker represents what would happen if you rolled into your local Ford dealer and ticked every option box. Some of the more notable options include the new-for-2015 Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Mitigation package, which retails for $1195, and the imaginatively named Rapid Spec Equipment Group 401A, which includes blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alerts and a premium audio system, for $1795."
